Heath Ledger... Oscar Thread

Heath Ledger was terrible in all but two movies in his entire career, and somehow people talk like he's Paul Newman or something.

If I'm paying to see a movie I'd pay to see TDK over Slumdog any day of the week. To me a good movie is any movie that entertained me. Slumdog is the type of movie I'll wait until it's on HBO to see.

My two certainties of the night:

1. Slumdog ... would win best picture.
2. Heath Ledger would win best supporting actor.

Was pulling for Rourke. And after Sean Penn's speech, even more so. :)

What I find troubling is that you seem to count the Indian element of the movie as a strike against it.

It's not about Who Wants to be a Millionaire, that is just the vehicle used to to bring us into the character's life. His life story, along with his brother and a girl, is what the movie is about, not being on a game show. And it's Millonaire.

No No NO it is about some crazy furriner on a game show. That is what the whole movie is about.

;) :p:

Did ya' ever see the interview with Jerry Seinfeld where Jerry was asked "What's Seinfeld all about, what's the point you're trying to get across?"

Seinfeld's reply was "It's about NOTHING, there IS NO POINT"!!!

And that's why "Seinfeld" was THE, HANDS DOWN, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT No. 1 show on TV of it's time. Maybe the best of all time..................

Because, when I go to a movie, or listen to a song, or watch something on TV, I don't want to be assaulted with someones social or political views. I just want to be entertained. If I want all that crap, I'll watch PMSNBC or go to some political web-site. Which I do quite often.........

But, if I go to a movie, I don't want to be leaving the theater having someones social agenda besieging my brain. I want to see things blown up, great acting, exiting and entertaining. When they make a love story with Arnold and Meryl Streep in it, and Arnold blows Streep up at the end, THAT'S a move that my wife and I will both be equally entertained by......

Milk, Slumdog, etc....................all want me to "ponder" what my values are. And I'm not interested in paying for that. Movies are like a ball-game to me............I don't want to be bothered with the writers, actors or directors personal views....................

Therefore, The Dark Knight was the best movie this DECADE. Maybe the best movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoy a good popcorn action flick, but for some reason I despise comic book movies. Haven't liked a single one i've seen since the '89 batman flick, and I skipped TDK.

Wow a thread where people who haven't seen certain films argue about their relative merits.

Bunch of Rhodes Scholars up in this thread.

Props to those of you who only argue about films you've actually seen.

Slumdog doesn't make you ponder anything. It's a pretty straightforward story that doesn't make you think too hard. It's not controversial or anything, it's just a good entertaining story. Definitely NOT your typical Oscar BS that's overly long, boring, and devoid of entertainment.

As usual, I'm in complete agreement with you. Can you imagine the frenzy if someone came on here criticizing The Dark Knight while admitting to not having seen it?

I think it would be fine if the "dark" referred to the Knight being an Indian guy.

I don't know if its as good as the hype makes it seem, but coming from someone whose seen the movie twice: His character definitely makes the movie what it is. I highly recommend it.
