I really think Gibbs gets thrown under the bus because of high expectations. Admittedly, the TO was bad, and he's very conservative, but he is getting a lot out of a not very talented team. In many ways, the Skins of 2005 remind me of the Cowboys of 2003. That Commanders team wasn't very good, but Gibbs managed to keep them in a lot of games and win ten, plus a playoff win despite 120 yards of offense.
The Skins are weak along both lines, and that is a recipe for disaster in the NFL. How they manage to be competitive with Fabini and Wade starting is really something to marvel at, IMO. And their secondary has been quite good when you consider the lack of pressure that the DL gets.
Gibbs is criticized for his lack of adjustments, but in my eyes, he's pretty hamstrung with the talent on that team. My guess is that he's coming up with a pretty good game plan during the week, and when, after halftime, the opponents take away the few things that work, the Skins are dead in the water.
The bottom line is, when the Skins must have a score or a stop they can't seem to get it against anyone.
