I hear ya, but remember what I said, if Spencer puts on 20 pounds of muscle (the right way) he might be used as the RDE. In my mind that would move Carpenter back to SOLB. They're not saying he can't get pressure. They're saying they believe he can apply it right up the middle. Not many players can do that. I believe Parcells saw that, but then asked him to read and react. Not in this scheme. He will be asked to attack at the point and to come on blitzes up the middle.
Think about this in 2 years.
Hatcher...Spears...Spencer
Carpenter...Burnett...James or Ayodele...Ware
We could still have Canty and Ratliff for depth and Roy on blitzes.
Translation...QBs pay your insurance. The thought of Ware and Spencer both coming from the right side is an Offensive Coordinator's worst nightmare.
