Henry v. Newman

I cannot see what you guys see in Newman...the guy is way overrated to be a high first round selection. Anthony Henry was selected in the fourth round and is much better than Newman according to stats. Newman just isn't producing... Everyone always uses the argument that nobody throws to Newman. Well when the other team does throw to him, he gets burned. Henry gets it done no matter how many times he is thrown to or how badly he is injured. Just look at the stats:

----------Tkl--Int--PD
Newman--63----1--12
Henry-----81----2--21

It's obvious who the better CB is..stats don't lie!!! So what if Newman runs a 4.3 and Henry runs a 4.5; it's all about production on the field, and Henry has out-produced Newman. Why waste a roster spot on a busted first round player when we can get better production from a forth round guy? We should have traded him while we had the chance. It is time to let him go and sign another CB in the draft next year.

Mark Twain said it best" There are lies; DAMN LIES; then there are STATISTICS."

He was the one that got famous saying it. As the reporter said at the end of "The Man that shot Liberty Valance" said: "when given the choice between printing the truth and printing the legend, print the legend"

Are you sure you are not singing 'Hail to the Commanders' while driving down the road. You can't be serious. Henry was thrown at 102 times, and that led the league. Hmm. I wonder why quarterbacks threw at him 102 times. Let's put Henry on Steve Smith. Yeah, that will win the game.

:lmao:

Show me another CB who has taken WRs like Steve Smith right out of a game.
Champ has not done it. None of the others have either.

I don't understand the point of this thread. Umm, this is a pro-Newman thread I guess? Too much thinking involved here...I like Newman, he is our best CB, top 5 in the league. End of story.

Mods, lock this thread up...nothing more to add here really.

6 catches for 55 yards plus 24 rushing. Not great stats, but not what I'd call shutting him down either.

Washington actually did better, 5 catches for 34 yards.

Hey you're overstating things a tad bit, Newman had help over the top so he could play Smith agressively but still all in all he's done a pretty good job covering him....

dumbhawk, as usual you blew it. Every single pass that Smith caught that game- with the exception of one 10 yd slant- came against the prevent D at the end of the half or end of the game. Newman SHUT HIM OUT the rest of the game. He also shut down TO when TO was hot with the Eagles. When he was put on your over rated munchkin Moss, he was shut down as well.

Weak. Some of those catches came against Henry right before half when we played a prevent defense. Like 3 of them IIRC.

So no, you are wrong.

Newman played most of the game on him, with the exception of the last minute before half in that prevent/zone.

Leonard Henry Courtney from a speech in 1895, later published in the [British] National Review, but some (including Twain) claim it's Benjamin Disraeli, though never found in his writings.

This was a joke thread in response to the Barber v. Jones thread. If you read that one, you might see the humor in my post... the sarcasm at the bottom should have been a hint that I wasn't serious.

Some of you guys get all worked up when someone tries to bash Newman but the proof is in the pudding.

He is one of the 2 corners in the league that I think week in week out absolutely blanket the other teams best receiver.

No receiver in the league (besides R. Moss) scares me when they line up to play against us.

4 catches for 69 yards and one rush for 19. 88 yards total. Not great (we had Mark Brunell throwing after all) but not shutting him down either.

Hmmmmm, NFL.com says that the first game in 04 against Dallas, TO had 134 yards and 3 TDs. Not so good the next game, 2 catches for 24 yards but I remember him going out with an injury in that game, so it's not really complete. And the only game against Dallas in 05, 6 catches for 60 yards.

Get lost, sucker! Go outside and look at what is happening in 2007! Better yet...just stick around and make a fool of yourself! We need the entertainment until the Cowboys come kicking that crap out of that lousey team of yours...
