Newman was put on an island with Owens in the 2004 game at Philadelphia and McNabb threw at him all day long. He shut Owens down before Owens left with an injury during the mid-part of the third quarter. The 2004 Dallas team was decimated in the secondary. Newman was the only cover-man Dallas had. Williams' strength isn't playing cover-2.

In the 2005 game in Dallas, during the second and third quarters, Newman matched up with Owens in the slot and covered him man-to-man for two quarters. This was where the Eagles used Owens to kill teams. Newman kept Owens' monster numbers off the score board and allowed Dallas to accumulate the points to blow the Eagles out. The very next week, Owens went into Denver and hung this on Champ Bailey and Denver: 3-154-1
Owens juked Bailey out of his shoes and ran 91 yards to pay dirt on a shallow slant. Bailey is considered the best, but Owens got him good in his house. Newman didn't allow Owens to come into his house and get away with that stuff.

Dallas had two pass rushers. After Ellis was hurt, they had one. Payton put the blue print out that detailed how to beat the Cowboys' defense. Other teams copied it.

Attack the safties deep and the linebackers in the flats or the linebacker covering the intermediate to deep middle. Payton dictated the coverages Brees threw into by using formations to exploit these weaknesses. Without a pass rush, it got ugly. Payton used formations to make Ware cover and put Ware in a bind between covering and rushing.

From what I have read, Anthony Henry shouldn't have played in the Saints or Falcons game.

After Thanksgiving Dallas was ranked in the top 5 in offense and defense. This is a new year, and if I was a Commander fan, I would quit thinking about Terence Newman and worry about my own corners vs Owens and Glenn.
