I guess I'm the only one that finds it funny that so many people bash Bledsoe and have so much patience with Henson.

I don't give a damn if the guy was given a chance or not... if the coaches don't feel like he can lead this team to victory.. I don't want him on the field.

EVERY ONE OF YOU would say the same thing about ANY other player on the roster.. but for some reason Henson gets this free pass to "get a chance to play in the game."
99.9% of the time.. if a guy can't do it right in practice.. he won't do it right in the game.

Its the backup QB syndrome. The guy buried #3 on depth chart who has pedigree, great potential that gets a free pass. He's the great hope. Hope is eternal - until he's put on the field and the lights go on!!!!!! That chance everyone wanted on the big stage!

Then its exit stage left at halftime!

Quite a difference really. Bledsoe has had 13 years, 188 games not including playoffs. Henson has had like 0.7 (1 half and a couple series in another game). Romo has had 0.1 games (didn't he down the ball twice?). Its hard to compare the three. But it should be much harder to have patience with a 13 year vet than someone with much less experience.

Sure it's hope. With Henson there is a slight chance, (even though I admit it seems to be fading each year), based on past scouting reports that he can do something positive and be the one to take us into the future.

With the other 2 guys it's pretty much a given what they are.

It's plainly obvious what we have in Bledsoe. Big-armed guy who is not a good consistent, efficient QB, who is going to go down in history as just another aging, big-armed guy who couldn't take his team to the top, ala, Dan Fouts.

With Romo, the chances are that as a Division II UFA, who hasn't taken a real snap in 3 seasons, he is nothing more than a souped-up, swaggering version of Kevin Sweeney.

Hopefully, if it turns out that the guys on the roster now aren't going to be the answer, Jerry will very soon get a good young QB in here who can take over this team and lead us to the top.

Must agree with your points here.

Henson just isn't ready.

No crime there.

We have very little invested in him so far.

I never understand the big furor.

The team has had a chance to see him play now in two offseasons and two seasons.

I don't hear anybody on the team screaming that Henson is the answer. No players coming out and saying he's better than whomever. That their careers are in jeopardy because he's carrying a clipboard instead of calling plays in the huddle.

Come on folks. Just like anybody, Henson has to earn it. Not just show up and expect it.

I'm SOOOOO bored with this Henson question.

Can we move on and just let it go..?

I thought it was a bad idea to change his mechanics. If you're successful at doing something a certain way, just become a genius at it.

I agree wholeheartedly!

However, we have wasted two seasons on older QB's even after we were eliminated from the playoffs. We gave up valuable chances to see if Henson or Romo are any good so we would have "the best chance to win". This is the biggest problem I have with Bill P. Henson or Romo may or may not be the answer. As long as they are on the sideline we will never know. Keeping on the sideline after we were eliminated was dumb!!!

:hammer: All the people who say Henson just isn't ready seem to forget that little point. The funny thing is that his old throwing motion looked a lot like Bledsoe's. Maybe Bill should ask Bledsoe to alter his motion this ofseason.

You may never know... but the coaches DO!!

I think that's something a lot of people forget. You look at the team on the field for 3 hours a week during football season... the coaches look at the team on the practice field, in the weight room, on film, in team meetings YEAR ROUND!!

based on past scouting reports that he can do something positive and be the one to take us into the future.

Scouting reports said Ryan Leaf was worth a #2 pick (behind Peyton Manning)...

I'm not trying to be an arse about all this.. but its a real beating when people who've seen Henson throw 18 passes think the guy deserves a chance to "show his stuff in the game" when the coaches who have seen him throw THOUSANDS of passes do not.

So you think it actually makes sense not to let one of the young QB's play when the game has no bearing on the playoffs. You seem to forget that if Bledsoe goes down we will be relying on one of those young QB's. A little experience in a basically meaningless game(like the Rams game) could possibly have playoff implications next year if Bledsoe gets hurt. Like I have said many times you only learn so much holding a clipboard.

Where did I say anything about that?

In my opinion.. no, its not a good idea to just throw Romo or Henson in there as the starter even in a meaningless game. If the coach just "gives up" and conciedes that he's going to put in the backups and not do everything he can to win every game... that's just a sign to the team that its ok to GIVE UP. And that's unnacceptable.

Philly game 1 would probably have been the best time to work the backups LATE in the game. All the other games were either close.. or we were losing (Wash. game 2).. so, no, you don't want to just give up the game in those situations.

The backups have practice and preseason to work and show their stuff.

I didn't like it much either. Here's a guy who was supposed to be a #1 pick if he had stayed in college, he was big, he had the big time arm....why would you screw with that. Parcells knows alot more about QB's than I do, he won a SB with Hostetler (who had a decent NFL career afterwards)..but common sense tells me:
Why would you mess with one of the QB's main weapons, his arm (mental aspect is huge too), at this point. You aren't going to tell a RB to start running a different way. Not in how they read the play, but their actual running form.

well, if he's coming back from 3 years away from the game, and has to re-learn everything, why not learn how to throw overhand?

trust me guys, changing his throwing motion didn't hurt Henson at all

there's a reason they gave Henson an 8-year deal...

there's a reason they said it's going to be a process with Henson...

add it all up, and there's a reason Henson is still on the bench, it's called development

now they're moving on to getting live action, and we'll see where we go from there

Practices start Friday February 10th in Florida.

Henson's on the Rhein Fire. Here's the bio on his Head Coach.

http://www.nfleurope.com/teams/coaches/RHE

Jim Tomsula
Defensive Coordinator

Jim Tomsula replaces Pete Kuharchek as head coach of the Rhein Fire after eight years in NFL Europe as an assistant coach. At age 38, Tomsula is the youngest head coach in NFL Europe League history. He is the third head coach in Fire history following Galen Hall and Pete Kuharchek.

In 2004 and 2005, Tomsula was defensive coordinator of the Berlin Thunder, who advanced to World Bowls in each of those seasons.

His unit ranked first in NFL Europe against the run in 2004 as Berlin enjoyed a successful march to World Bowl XII, where they defeated the Frankfurt Galaxy.

Tomsula joined the Thunder after five seasons as defensive line coach with the Scottish Claymores. His first season in pro football was with the England Monarchs in 1998.

A passionate individual, Tomsula always gets the most out of his players who consistently play with the pride and emotion personified by their coach. He began his coaching career at Charleston Southern and Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. Tomsula played his college football at Catawba after transferring from Middle Tennessee State.
During the off-season, Jim lives in Carolina with his wife Julie and their daughters Britney and Brooke.

And one that mentions his Offensive Coordinator...

Drew Henson, a starter with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004, will head to the Rhein Fire for the 2006 NFL Europe League season after being allocated to the team by the Dallas Cowboys.

Henson played three years at Michigan, earning All-Big 10 honors, before being drafted by baseball’s New York Yankees, where he spent three years. The Cowboys signed him in 2004 and he has played in seven NFL games, including one start.

The Fire will also feature Philadelphia Eagles’ Timmy Chang, who re-wrote the record books at the University of Hawaii, with 17,072 yards and 117 touchdowns.

Both quarterbacks will benefit from the tutelage of offensive coordinator Steve Logan, who has been the quarterbacks coach for the Berlin Thunder for the past two season – helping Rohan Davey (2004) and Dave Ragone (2005) to the past two NFLEL Offensive MVP awards.

Rhein chose defensive end Tyler King with the very first pick in the 2006 NFL Europe League allocated player draft. King will hook up with head coach Jim Tomsula – renowned for his ability to put together outstanding defensive lines in NFL Europe.

nice, Henson is getting a great QB coach, and has one of the best D-lines in NFLE on his side

Curious how Davey and Ragone have fared since? I know Davey was cut by Pats but landed somewhere. Not sure what Ragone did?

Rohan Ravey was picked up by the AZ Cardinals.

Dave Ragone is still on the Texans.
