Here Are the Final Two Issues

I would not move off the 10 year agreement. We don't need this crap every few years and it's not good for the game, clearly.

If the players want to go to the Stadium, that's fine, so long as their is a reasonable time frame for arrival and vote.

On what has changed, I am confused about that. The players said that their were changes but they also said that they had not seen anything. One of those statements can not be true.

I would think that it is the job of the NFLPA Rep. Smith to insure that the player reps have that info and that the union members are kept in the loop. It is the responsibility of the Union members to make themselves easily accessible to receipt of information. I understand wanting to completely vet the proposal but in no way can I see how this would be the responsibility of the owners.

De Smith's comments were clear. There were a few items not yet decided upon including the length of the deal that were included.

And a few things were added late: what we heard specifically was revenue sharing stuff. Revenue sharing either should be pulled or attached and then passed to the players. You don't sign a partial contract, ever.

its part of the overall package. There are parts in there that only concern the players as well. Like meeting at team facilities twice a year or whatever. Now the owners may have some interest in when that happens, but frankly it does not concern them, does it?

Utter nonsense. You do not put terms and conditions in a contract that does not concern both parties.

When you signed you 30 year mortgage, did it contain a clause on where you do your dry cleaning?

we keep going back to revenue sharing and no one yet has shown a reason why the players should care.

No, but I would think talking about where the union should hold their meetings is also something that only concerns one side, right?

Not if the section regarding union meetings states when and where they cannot hold meetings, such as a ban from meeting at team facilities during the league season. That affects both.

That's fine but that doesn't change the validity of what I said. I understand the players wanting to discuss the length of the contract. If I were the owners, I would not agree to it but I am not the owners.

The Revenue sharing is a none issue. I probably agree that it should be pulled out if that is possible but those who say it makes no difference to the players are correct.

is there such a thing in the CBA? And in the end does it matter?
SO you cannot meet at the team facilities? WHAT DOES THAT MATTER?

Players want a seven-year opt out clause in CBA

7/22/2011 10:54:03 AM

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports a player vote is still possible today on the proposed labor agreement ratified by NFL owners on Thursday.

There are two key issues the players want the owners to agree to:

• An opt-out clause seven years into the proposed 10-year collective bargaining agreement;

• To be allowed to report to team facilities and vote in person on recertifying as a union.
The NFLN reported that the players also want changes to the appeals process on player discipline. Currently appeal go right back to Goodell. The players want an independent party or panel to hear appeals on player conduct issues.

ESPN is reporting the players will take the weekend off and they are not sure they will vote..

I have a bit of advice..Get the **** off Twitter, read the agreement and if there is a problem, contact the owners and settle this damn thing.

In this economy the owners gave them a 13% pay increase..How many people in this country got a pay increase this year?

This is on the players..

You asked about a term affecting both sides - I showed how it could affect both sides. Just because it doesn't matter to you, doesn't mean it doesn't matter to the NFL or the NFLPA*

They can't touch those issue unless there is CBA in place, meaning there has to be a Union. Goodell already said that they will change the process for drug testing appeals. But can't do it until they have a Union to negotiate with.

Has anyone reported what the players claim was "added" by the owners?

(Other than the revenue sharing, which seems to be a deal between the owners that doesn't need the players' involvement.)

If it doesn't need player involvement then it wouldn't be part of the CBA ...

How did they get a 13% pay increase?

That actually makes sense. The person dropping the hammer should not be the appellate authority.

Revenues going up.

Over last year? Certainly not over what they were scheduled to get.

The players are definitely getting less money in this deal

They are getting a larger percent of a very much larger pie! That is an increase.

Sounds like a reasonable ask to me.

They are getting a smaller percentage of a (possibly) larger pie. This is a significant pay decrease from what they would have received had the owners not opted out. The players gave up a lot here.

The impression I got from yesterday's coverage was: the players don't like what they perceive as a forced timeline to reassemble the union. I believe they want to delay just a fraction longer than need be to show the owners that they aren't the ones pulling their strings.
