Upgrade at what cost? We fried JJ and FO for putting us in CAP hell and now they are managing it responsibly you are going to fry them too?

Who exactly have to lost that's so vital to this team's success beside Murray? ........Parnell? Durant? Harris? Did you see the obscene money being thrown at our BACKUPS?

Always ask....if these FAs are so good why do their own teams let them go?

Most people had a pretty good idea and FO has dropped enough hints along the way that they were not going to overpaid for RB when they have build a wall upfront with 3 first rounder. Yes, Murray was valuable but not irreplaceable. If he was so good why were there only THREE teams interested (Jax, Oak and.....Phili after he called and Kelly was desperate).

Take a deep breath. It's a long off season. Panic after training camp if you must.

Nice post.
I was thinking about starting a thread about all the meltdown posts, as well a 3 posters troll talking but add no substance to their posts.

Can't recall if at this point last year this place was in meltdown mode also, but I don't think it was this bad.
And all the moves / non-moves worked out pretty well last year. Doesn't mean it will be repeated, but chances are better that it will work out.

For me, this offseason has been satisfying so far. In essence, the Cowboys have managed to hold onto Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley, and Doug Free at the cost of losing DeMarco Murray. Grab his replacement in the draft along with a defensive end or two; and I'll be happy.

I might be in the minority here; but it's nice to see the Cowboys being financially smart. Don't forget they have to lock up Dez sometime over the next several months. The Cowboys took a similar approach to free agency last year; and they won 12 games.

1st of all we don't know how the draft is gonna play out, I mean it could be like last year when the Cowboys had to give up a 3rd rd pick just to get Lawrence who was the last highest rated pass rusher on the board. I would just hate to find ourselves in that position of drafting a decent pass rusher at 27 because we need that position filled especially if Gurley is still on the board.

Are we a better team than last year? No.

Have we used free agency to improve the roster? No

Do all teams have an opportunity to improve in the draft? Of course they do.

This idea that we will just improve through the draft is stupid. Every team will try, including the teams we view as competition to win the NFC.

Another ridiculous idea being thrown out over and over again. We only added a few players last year and looked how that turned out. 12-4! The team was cutting salaries and admitted several times they felt they were going to have a down year. Their thinking last year wasn't to build a contender, it was to get by. Now, some of you want to think the same "strategy" will pay off this year.

Did we get better? No. The Front Office is scrambling and signing random back-up's. This team had several holes going into free agency and now they have more. Even the 1974 Steelers' draft couldn't fill all of this team's holes.

You obviously don't know that the teams that added pieces in free agency will not be allowed any draft picks

A countless number of teams have upgraded their defenses tremendously so far in the past couple of weeks. There have been a lot of players at every position available for the taking, and we have sat still and let them sign with other teams.

This is exactly what the Cowboys said they were going to do. Guess you didn't get the email.

I think this is about the last year of cleaning up 20 years of Jerry's crap. They are waiting to get the last dead money from Miles Austin's stupid contract (and Free's) off the books and try to deal with the huge hole of Romo's crazy cap number that they used to make the rest of the fake numbers work, in years past. They know they messed up and now have someone else in charge besides Jerry so it just takes awhile to clean it up. Last year was a fluke with changing to a running based game, that covered up a lot of warts and that lesson took Jason some time to learn vs. the pass happy days previous.

They want to eat Romo's stupid number this year then they should be able to manage things from here on out with out pushing too much fake money into the future(other than Smith this year). The Defense will have to make do with what they can piece together but the running game is the real key IMHO. Murray is replaceable but they need to find a legit replacement. McFadden seems like a panic move but they did cover themselves with nothing locked in with real money so it is a "push" move to me. We will see, but the draft will be key for this year.

Legit question. I have no answer for you.

We currently have the worst front 7 in the league.

I am at a total loss as well to explain our strategy. We were one badly interpreted call from the NFCCG and instead of trying to get that one missing piece we are now penny pinching.

We have lost Parnel, Carter, Durant, Harris, and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and our big signing is McFadden...............LOL

The only two players I sort of wished we went after for what they got, were Fairley (who I can see why we didn't go after him) and Knighten (who they probably didn't feel was a good scheme fit). That is it, and that isn't a whole lot. Most other players, either wouldn't work here, weren't big needs, or were too expensive.

To the OP.. what SPECIFIC moves would you have made or would have like to have seen made 3 days into FA?

It would take half a page to list every one. Let's make it easy. Almost every defensive free agent that has signed with another team is better than every healthy defensive player we have on our current roster. Sure, I like Crawford, Hitch, and my favorite is OS. But other than that our other guys would have to compete hard to start on most teams. Half of our defense might not make the 53 on contending teams. That's very sad and scary!!! You can't count on Lee to play half a season, and who knows what will happen with Ro.

It's a completely different off season. The NFL went a total different way this year as far FA is concerned.

So based on your rational of running out to sign all those FAs to replace the scrubs on this D (most people agree on upgrading our D) where exactly are you planning to come up with the money to keep us under the cap? you can't keep mortgaging the future. Piper needs to be paid at some point.

Our defense was not the reason our season ended, a botched red flag challenge was. Sure I want our D to get better but if that doesn't happen, it's not the end of the teams hopes to advance. It's premature at this point to think our D won't have some upside additions. Patience

I think what may get lost in that Packer game is that if we had a better D the game would have never came down too that bad call. We had the Packers on the ropes in the third and fourth quarter.

Or if Murray would have protected the ball like the coaches asked him to do, instead of his swinging arms running style. And not have fumbled, and went on to score the TD. That play to Dez probably would not have been needed to try on a 4th and 1, when Murray could have ran for it, if he could hold on to the ball.

If? Really? What if Aaron Rodgers were 100% instead of hobbling around. All kinds of what if's can be posed at this point and we will never have the answers to any of them.

But yeah... please Dallas D, get better.

The Lions couldn't bring down Rodgers either, with one of the best d-lines in the league last year, as well as one of the best defenses. Rodgers is an elusive guy (even with the 1 leg that he had that game) that can put up points, especially at home, I suppose he scored a few more points on us than him but it was pretty comparable really.
