Yeah, I wasn't saying anything about you specifically. Your post just made me think about it. I've been around a lot of death (either from things I've witnessed on the news or things that happened in my community) and I've heard so many times people say "They were so beautiful" when the victim was actually extremely physically attractive. Usually happens with young females but even happened with a few guy friends of mine in high school. People say it as if it's more tragic when the victim was young and beautiful. Your comment just made me pose the question. I wasn't singling out you specifically. But thanks for the in depth answer. I know what you mean about trying to look into someone's eyes to see their inner being. Though, I would say, it's hard to really see someone for who they are unless you see them in person. Many people are either photogenic or only post pictures online of them when they're happiest.

I think there was some merit in your question and I don't think you were attacking the other person about it.

I still remember the Jessica Lynch situation. We, people where I live, see stories about her from time to time even all these years later in WV. She was a small pretty blonde girl who became a huge story and even she said they exaggerated about her heroics. Yet there was another woman captured during that time that was a little heavy set and had dark skin that most people don't remember....even if they do remember her, chances are most would not know her name without looking it up while at the same time most would know the name of Jessica Lynch.

There have been times where a pretty young girl would go missing, say a girl that was a beauty contestant, and all of a sudden it goes nationwide and gets captured by the news and the nation grabs onto the story...while at the same time maybe another girl that would not be considered pretty by most current standards might be missing and does not get the same coverage. Jean Benet Ramsey comes to mind how the nation took hold of the story. Why should her story be more popular than any number of other young girls that were taken...was it because she was a beauty pageant contestant/winner, was it because her family was rich. Who knows. But it does tend to happen.

Just wanted to say, I get what you were saying to a degree. Pretty, Ugly and by whoever's description...does it really make a difference if they died.

I think I get more of the they were so Young to die kind of thinking vs the pretty.

Every bodies parents see beauty in all of their children. Society is funny, they don't always see it that way. Will probably never change but your post is good. Excellent IMO, truth be told.

I appreciate you not being mean to me for my answer. Didn't mean to make it so long, just wanted to explain what I meant when I said the girl looked beautiful to me. Yeah, there are people that only look at and react to skin deep. It's sad really. There are tells in the eyes and about the body, though, that a picture can be all you need. It's not photogenic I am talking about. That is still only skin deep. Anyway, I think this is a good question, although maybe not the right thread, why do people say that when they are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye? It's part of life, I guess. The way humans are raised to see and think for the most part. Which girl is the first to get asked to dance at a high school dance? Which girls get voted cheerleader? Which guy gets Mr. Popularity in the yearbook? Most likely to succeed? All the girls crushing on him? It's not the visually unappealing ones. Why are there entertainers making millions of dollars, when they have no real talent to speak of? It's because people pay money to look at physical attractiveness. And Brain is 100% correct, the media has fueled this 1000 fold, and they do focus more on physically attractive people to talk about, whether alive or dead. Yall are both right, guys.
