the city of New Orleans helped me get my life back together early last decade and for that I will forever be grateful. all the people were wonderful to me, except for the Hustler club in the Quarter who made us leave for high levels of intoxication, but overall my experience was really heart warming.

as for the Aints, I'm ok with them having success. they've sucked so bad for so long that its nice to see them have a little something to enjoy in light of all the negative news that we know has flowed from there.

when the Cowboys kicked that butt, I was happy. we had scoreboard on them, and now if they beat Minny, awesome. I'd rather see Brees in the bowl than Favre anyday....

overall, just another bandwagon article...all media outlets produce them from time to time....

He added that the Who Dat Nation is infectious with enthusiasm. "I mean, How can you not look at these folks going nuts and not sort of feel and want to be a part of it?"

I think it is lame and a bunch of morons failed english in school. IF they even went to school.

It also makes me think of a Dat Dallas had/ has. And that is no good to me.

I guess from a certain point of view, you could call them that. They're probably the least offensive to fans who follow teams, and probably would be the choice of people who don't really follow the game. Even at that, I think the "Katrina factor" is wearing thin on people.

But when it comes to the # of fans who actually follow teams, they're not even in the top 5. Probably not the top 10.

Years ago before a Monday night game, Danny Noonan called NO the "armpit" of America (I think that's the game Morton Anderson made like a 52 yarder to win it at the final gun).

I'd have to agree with him.

Why do people get so worked up about "America's Team"

It will always be associated with the cowboys....period...

hell, google image search it and see what comes up.

Let these fad teams think they're whatever, like the patriots in the mid 00's, they too had people saying this. But in the end, the Cowboys will always be:
l
l
l
l
V

Because they can't think up their own nickname, and it let's people knock the Cowboys too.

I lived in New Orleans for a year prior to enterting medical school..oh so many years ago.

This was pre Katrina..pre revitalized wharf/downtime. Pre everything but heavy in culture and tradition.

It was and still is (having been there for a medical conference three months ago) one of the most disgusting cities in the country.

Crime ridden, filthy, utterly non safe in most of the urban sub-sections. (So unsafe that generally taxi cab drivers will avoid the area).

To call this city/team "America's team" is a joke of epic proportions.

According to Harris Interactive Media polls, the Cowboys have never been ranked worse than 4th in popularity since 1998. Overall, they have been 1st in popularity since 1998...and it's not even close.

Dallas is America's team, the people have spoken. Other idiots just need to deal with it.

I absolutely LOVE this emoticon. I'm so sick of the nonsense this week, and (Dear God!) if they win Sunday night and make it to the Super Bowl, I am going to have to move.

That makes 2 of us. This week at work has been unbearable. I work with a Vikings fan, and of course, a whole bunch of Saints fans. They declared today to be black and gold day.

I hate the Vikings, but I do hope they win on Sunday. Otherwise, I will have to call in sick for the next 2 weeks.

I really don't care for the ownership of the moniker, just the reaction it engenders every year at this time: the current fave for the Super Bowl is suddenly 'America's Team'! It's a fine statement on the increasingly short attention span and lack of patience and originality in a generation.

The people that get their panties bunched up over the original owner of this label are deluded in their understanding of why it exists and simply hope they are 'influential' enough in their ramblings to spurn a movement. Lazy and pretty much thuggish in not being clever enough to come up with something viable and eye catching and attention worthy, they attempt to steal something that's been in place, becuase of who it's been identified with.

To this point, New Orleans hasn't done crap that a large number of other teams have done: make it to the Championship game. Going beyond that, winning one Super Bowl isn't a feat worthy of crowning a teams glory, either.

No, they ****ing aren't. And they aren't going to be. They can have all the bandwagon fans they want, it doesn't make them America's team.

Why are the Saints so popular?

"People are looking for some sort of joy, and this is it with a cherry on top," Thompson said.
No, it's because they're winning, and if they go all the way, you'll see Saints fans and gear everywhere.

If anyone deserves the moniker "America's Team" it is either the Steelers or the Packers.
The only team that deserves it is the team it belongs to. Everyone else is a whiny baby wanting someone else's toy.

Tough.

That's funny, why don't I hear everyone calling them that? Oh that's right, because they aren't.

For real, if these teams want a nickname so badly, they can just come up with it on their own. I guarantee that if the Cowboys weren't America's team, and it had not been thought of until now, it wouldn't stick and be moot anyway.
