As per Peter King's MMQ, Herschel Walker was discussing his upcoming MMA fighting debut in November during a radio interview saying "I told them I don't want to fight a bum. I want to fight a contender,'' he said.

That's a serious sport and seeing Herschal battling in the cage might be worth the price for admition!

Is one of his personalities crazy?

I don't know why, there are no athletes in that sport that compare to the real professional athletes.

Hershel was a world class athlete, that sport will never see anyone of his caliber in their prime. Hershel has a punchers chance, just like every other bum in that sport.

wow. that's a pretty 1990s viewpoint of MMA. There are plenty of ridiculously talented guys in MMA these days. It's pretty much where a lot Division 1 college wrestlers are going to earn a living. There are guys like Dan Henderson and Matt Lindland (who actually won a Silver medal) who've been to the Olympics. Care to tell either of those guys they're not world class athletes? At the smaller weight classes, it's even more true. A lot of smaller guys who may not been able to play at the highest levels of team sports due to lack of size, but have athleticism in spades are practicting MMA.

Bums? Maybe when the UFC first hit you'd find your share of overweight beer-bellied bums but to call these guys bums is ridiculous. Maybe you are referring to Kimbo? Yes, I'd call him a bum and look what happened to the bum. Most MMA fighters are some of the most disciplined, versatile, highly trained and conditioned athletes in the world. Far, far from bums. Educate yourself a bit better before labeling MMA fighters as bums.

if they were that good they wouldn't be fighting MMA

The paydays are tiny, and the risks are too great.

Not to mention the main guy(dana white) leading the sport doesn't even have beyond a high school education and runs it like he is a mob boss.

if they were such great athletes they would be boxing, the money is better, and the perks are much better. They are failed athletes at their chosen sport and resorted to MMA because they have to.

The guys that fight in MMA because they love it are the guys who would be fighting in bars anyways. Guys with chips on their shoulders and someting to prove.

Garbage sport. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night with one good punch.

I won't ever be a fan.

Agreed, it is not the WWF. The days of fat palookas like Tank Abbott are long gone. Even one of the more famous fighters in Kimbo Slice is really a joke in comparison to most of them. Walker wouldn't be the first professional athlete to underestimate the overall quality of MMA fighters. Go ask Johnnie Morton and Jose Canseco how it felt.

I bet I keep up with it more than you do.

I was there from day one, they aren't well disciplined they are sloppy techniquewise and get away with it because everyone else is too.

Once in a blue moon a truly gifted person skillset wise comes in(fedor) but in the end they are sloppy fighters, who lack the discipline that martial arts was intended to teach.

They aren't all failed boxers. Many are world class wresters (real) and martial arts champions. This shows how little you do know about the sport.

The guys that fight in MMA because they love it are the guys who would be fighting in bars anyways. Guys with chips on their shoulders and someting to prove.

About 10 years ago, you would be right. Most of those are not even competing in today's environment.

I didn't say they were boxers, but that if they were that class of athlete they would be boxing because the money is there, it isn't there in MMA.

I keep up with the sport, you don't need to preach to me about the fighters, I watch them, very few are truly talented, the rest are also rans.

and oh by the way, you see that kid that was born with no arms or legs fight in MMA? ya, classy sport man.

:laugh2: it looks sloppy to you cause it's MIXED martial arts.a good % of the stuff they teach you in 1 perticular martial art is useless in mma.

He's gonna get beat so quick. Esp if he's in the 205 division. I remember he use to practice martial arts when he was in Dallas, but this is a different era. That being said, I rooted for him in "Celebrity Apprentice".

BTW, Hershel reminds me of Bruce Leroy from "The Last Dragon". The way he carries himself.

which is why they are sloppy fighters who don't have good technique, which is why I hate the sport.

and that they always hit the guy more than once after he is clearly out, someone is going to get really hurt from that one day.

trash sport.

and also, fedor is primarily one discipline and he wrecks people, so how you wanna explain that one?

and yes he cross trains, but his sambo is his base, he goes back to it all the time.

the gracies got into MMA because of the chip on their shoulder about BJJ being the superior martial art in the world.

it evolved into a convoluted mess

you guys get so defensive about a sport you never participated in, you read my words and twist them into something I didn't say because you got emotional about what I said.

Sorry, doesn't make me wrong though.
