Herschel Walker Talking NFL Comeback
Posted by jellis at 1/25/2011 10:21 AM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Evidently 3,500 sit-ups and 1,000 push-ups a day will keep you in pretty good shape, because former Cowboys and NFL running back Herschel Walker is talking about a comeback.

At 48.

"If I continue to stay in the shape I'm in now, I know I can play when I'm 50," Walker told the Philadelphia Daily News and other sources during a conference call to promote his latest Mixed Martial Arts bout, in San Jose, Calif.

Walker claims he can be the George Foreman of football.

"Right now, if you asked me if I can play today, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind I can play football, that I can help a team out," Walker said. "I can 100 percent guarantee you I can help a football team out.

"I think I'm a better conditioned athlete right now than I was when I was playing. I'm 48 now, and I'm in better shape now than I was in my early 20s playing football."

He said his preferred teams would be Minnesota and Atlanta, his home. Walker started his career in the USFL, playing from 1983-85, and had two stints with the Cowboys, from 1986-89, and 1996-97. In between he played for the Vikings, Eagles and Giants.

Former Bears, Oilers and Raiders quarterback/kicker George Blanda holds the record as the oldest person to appear in an NFL game, at 48 years and 109 days, though he was only a kicker in his last few years in the game.

It would be fun to watch him try. I bet he can still show some of these kids a thing or two.

Wonder what his 40 time is now ?
I am guessing he would try and come back as a kick returner.

I thought he had split personalities. This sounds like bipolar.

Well only one of him is going to try the comeback the other is staying home. :D

I remember seeing him on the show center stage a couple of years back and thought, dang he looks like he can still play.

Do I believe this? No. But he really has kept himself in great shape.

I would not put anything past Herschel Walker, .. I love the guy.

If he says he can do it, I hope he gets the chance so we can all find out if he can or not.

Put him at the top of the 'I' and turn him loose.
He will not run out of bounds, he is a big man running right at you, and he does not get caught from behind.

I would trade Barber for him today.

I have no doubt he is in great shape. But I'm sure all of his speed and agility is gone.

The only position I could see him playing is FB. He can't have the speed to play RB anymore, and he never had much wiggle.

I would be shocked if he could even do that though. I'm sure he's in great shape, but it's one thing to feel it and believe it, and another to actually get out on the field and see how your body responds.

First reaction was to laugh.

Second reaction was to think Herschel really might be better.:

I love the guy, too. He's one of the few true athletic freaks I've ever seen.

It is harder to tackle 2 guys instead of 1.

I am sure he could play one game, but it would take 16 weeks for him to recover.

:lmao2: so true

one possible scenario is if replacement players are called in due to a lockout/strike, he would get a shot.

That really wasn't saying much on my part because I don't care much for Barber these days.

He runs out of bounds all of the time, .. or he gains 3 yards and jumps up and goes crazy, .. he got us a 15 yd penalty because he had to take his helmet off so we all could see how long his hair is getting, .. won't talk to the media.

What's to like?

Go get'em Herschel! Whatever he has put his mind to he has done, football, Olympic bobsled team, FBI agent, boxing, MMA or whatever it is.

If he says he can do it, I can't wait to find out.

Except by Adam Vinatieri.

:bang2:

Name 1 person that's ever made this statement true. You've heard it a million times and the person stating it is always humiliated and proven wrong shortly after.
