Herschel Walker Talking NFL Comeback
Posted by jellis at 1/25/2011 10:21 AM CST on truebluefanclub.com
Evidently 3,500 sit-ups and 1,000 push-ups a day will keep you in pretty good shape, because former Cowboys and NFL running back Herschel Walker is talking about a comeback.
At 48.
"If I continue to stay in the shape I'm in now, I know I can play when I'm 50," Walker told the Philadelphia Daily News and other sources during a conference call to promote his latest Mixed Martial Arts bout, in San Jose, Calif.
Walker claims he can be the George Foreman of football.
"Right now, if you asked me if I can play today, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind I can play football, that I can help a team out," Walker said. "I can 100 percent guarantee you I can help a football team out.
"I think I'm a better conditioned athlete right now than I was when I was playing. I'm 48 now, and I'm in better shape now than I was in my early 20s playing football."
He said his preferred teams would be Minnesota and Atlanta, his home. Walker started his career in the USFL, playing from 1983-85, and had two stints with the Cowboys, from 1986-89, and 1996-97. In between he played for the Vikings, Eagles and Giants.
Former Bears, Oilers and Raiders quarterback/kicker George Blanda holds the record as the oldest person to appear in an NFL game, at 48 years and 109 days, though he was only a kicker in his last few years in the game.
