Tim Seder? You must know something I don't or you were just seeing who would catch it.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that.

We used to call Seder "Pudding Boy" because he looked like a little blob of vanilla pudding.

I've been a Cowboys fan since 67-68, so I have seen a lot of players come and go.

I have never felt the need to pick 'one' as my favorite at anything, so I have never tried to select my favorite Cowboy, ... but Herschel has always been one of my favorites.

The NFL wasted his talents though. Tom Landry was the only smart one to utilize him the way he should have been, and Herschel rewarded Landry with 1,500 yds rushing and 500 receiving.

Even though he was misused, Herschel never complained, always a team player.

Yes sir. I remember Hershel's game vs the Eagles back in the day. He was one of my favorites also.

About the one meal a day thing. I remember in training camp, they asked Nate (or one of the players) if that was true about Hershel eating one meal a day, and they said that Hershel was caught eating more then once.

When I was a kid I got the book "Herschel Walker's Basic Training", which detailed his his modest beginnings, his pushup/situp routine, and a high school coach who told him that those and sprints were all he needed to get bigger and stronger. Of course, a freak like Herschel doesn't need much of a program -- he was a natural.

I remember going to the Dallas Times Herald invitational track meet at Reunion, too. They had a "Pro Football 60m dash", and Herschel whipped everyone (including Doug Donley) despite being by far the biggest player out there.

Herschel was something to see -- just a huge, fast, block of granite. I remember asking my dad as we were leaving, "Can you believe Herschel got that big just from pushups and situps?" And my dad said, "Did you see the size of his neck? That guy would be huge if he never got off the couch."

I don't think many people realize that Herschel wasted his best years in the USFL. I want to say he rushed for over 2400 yards... And that's just rushing, not receiving or all-purpose. Granted, it was the USFL, but still, that's amazing in pro football. He used to zero in on and absolutely destroy those poor little DBs that came up to hit him.

Everyone talks about the legendary Bo Jackson, but I've always thought that Herschel was his equal as an athlete. He was just a little too early for the Nike marketing machine.

Nice post CL. I think the pushup and situps would help a lot. I wonder what he would have been like had he received year round proper training.
