‘MY GOD, A FRESHMAN!"

Even 35 years later, nobody can believe what they saw on Sept. 6, 1980.

On that day, Georgia running back Herschel Walker and Tennessee safety Bill Bates met in one of the most famous collisions in college football history

Awesome video of Hershel Walkers as Freshman Trucking Bill Bates. Glad both of these guys were Cowboys (just too bad Hershel wasted all those years in three USFL).

Good read. I've seen a lot of great college backs but none come close to what I saw in Walker. I liked reading about the former players and coaches who thought they had a stiff. It was probably like they were in the phone booth and saw Clark Kent turn into Superman.

Anyone who has seen Barry Sanders run strongly disagrees.

I was thinking about Bo Jackson.

Me too
Barry was a different kind of back than Bo and walker
Barry had super speed and freakish moves
Walker and Bo could run over or around you
Big guys with good speed
Would have loved to have seen all 3 play and stay healthy more years in the nfl
All three were special players

Barry had the moves. Not sure anyone could top him in that area.

Bo was a good bit faster though....and Herschel was as fast as Barry.

One of the greatest less talked about trades ever.
Tex Schramm in 1984, made a trade with Houston Oilers for their 5th round draft pick in 1985. Cowboys chose Herschel Walker.
Only to be traded to...well, we all know that historical trade...

I thought we sent a WR to Houston in 1985, and was right and wrong, but couldn't remember who. There was more to the trade, so looked it up....
We traded Butch Johnson, and 1984 second round pick (#54-Bo Eason) to Oilers for Mike Renfro, a 1984 second round pick (#40-Victor Scott), and we got the 1985 fifth round pick (#114-Herschel Walker) on 1984-04-13

Remember what Demarco Murray did to the Eagles' Bennie Logan? LOL

(I think it was Logan. It was a d-lineman for sure.)

There's nothing Herschel did in college that Adrian Peterson and Bo Jackson didn't trump.

And Marcus Dupree might have been better than any of them if he stayed.
