Hey Cowboy fans

No. The Cowboys lost Irvin to a broken collarbone and Sanders to a broken orbital bone against the Panthers. Eric Bjornson, who filled in somewhat capably for Jay Novacek, who was on the injured list all season long, had a chronic ankle sprain, and was limited. With Leon Lett suspended, the Cowboy run defense was not good (Anthony Johnson ran for over 100 yards in the Panthers game). Charles Haley did not play after November, and ultimately retired and took the pass rush with him. Emmitt Smith had played the season with bone chips in his ankle. The Cowboys had no vertical threat offensively, did not have the security of Novacek in the middle, had a less than 100% Smith and an offensive line on the decline (Donaldson was completely washed up, Newton's weight was becoming a real problem, and Tuinei was battling knee issues that ultimately ended his career).

If the Cowboys had managed to beat the Panthers, the Packers would have wiped the floor with them.

yep, at the time I thought if they can't win a Super Bowl, I'd rather lose to the panthers instead of giving the Packers and their fans any revenge who were chomping at the bit to get back at those Cowboys for how often they not only beat them but also beat them up
