Since a number of skins fans have been frequenting our forum and asking us questions, here is one for them:

The Cowboys have a little more than $11 million in salary-cap room.
The 2006 cap numbers for the six players signed – guard Kyle Kosier, linebacker Akin Ayodele, tight end Ryan Hannam, guard Andre Gurode, Owens and Fabini – equal $12.4 million.

so in other words:

Kosier+Ayodele+Hannam+Gurode+Owens+Fabini = signing bonus for Randle El

which would you rather have???

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2::moon::moon::lmao::lmao::lmao:

yeah, I know.... spare me the justifications please

mega props to JJ and BP for keeping their powder dry and their eye on the ball

They may not know it, but their best new piece to te puzzle is their offensive coordinator, Al Saunders.

that is VERY true. Then again, Wash's current players (talking OL) may not fit his style so well. I think this was Wash's biggest offseason signing, well that and Greg Williams's re-signing.

Just curious how many receptions did Randle Smell have last year? Because I thought he was the third receiver at Pittsburgh.... anyone know

It is funny to watch Little Danny panic and just start throwing wads of money at players. He goes after solid players who will help his team, but he overpays them by $10-15 million in most cases because he has no real negotiation skills.

He just flashes the checkbook and in the end, he helps throw the FA price balance out of whack by hiking up the salaries.

Jerry and Co. know how to negotiate with players and bring them in...he also knows when to spend the big money.

I HATE TO, but we just got the 2nd best receiver in the league at an excellent rate that satisfied both parties. Where as EL got a huge contract that he is not worth and in 3 years, he will be a quiet cap casualty of the skins while they claim that they will never be in cap hell.

Why are you comparing our cap hit to their signing bonus?

Randle El's cap hit for this year is only like $3 million. I enjoy making them look bad, but at least compare apples to apples.

35 catches last year, 162 catches in 64 games in his 4 year career (an average of almost exactly 40 catches per 16 game season)... he never has caught 50 in a year, his best being 47 in his rookie season... you're right, he had 1 TD catch last year, 7 in his 4 year career...

Ask, and ye shall receive... :laugh2:

Basically they spent all that money on a punt returner.

2005
Receiving: 35r 558y 1TD
Punt Ret: 44r 448y 2TD

I think he'll make a nice 3rd or 4th receiver, but you're right about what he cost...

If the Cowboys paid that for a 3rd receiver the fans would snap!

Washington does it and their fans think it was the greatest "heist" since the great train robbery.

I think Jerry, Stephen and Purcells have done a much better job at managing the cap.

Funny how that works.

This all reminds me of the last year that Don Shula caoched the Dolphins. Of that starting 22, 21 were 1st round picks by Miami or another team before they landed in Miami.

A huge collection of talent, but no team, if you know what I mean.

If we're being fair here, and I think we should be, the astronomical numbers you see for these players are misleading. From the WP -

The deals for Archuleta, Randle El and Carter are nearly identical, all worth roughly $30 million over six years, with a $5 million signing bonus and between $4 million and $5 million in roster bonuses due in March 2007, according to a league source. The players make the minimum in base salary in the early years of the contract, and all three carry cap figures of about $1.5 million in 2006 and $2.5 million in 2007, with Carter counting $5 million in 2008 and Randle El and Archuleta counting about $4 million each

So they're essentially 3 year deals.

Synder's negotiations go something like this:

Synder: How much do you want? Done.....welcome to the Commanders

Commanders fans have all drunk the burgundy kool-aid, it seems... most fans get enthused about their team's offseason moves, but anybody they sign is automatically puffed beyond all belief...

I think Jerry, Stephen and Purcells have done a much better job at managing the cap.

Ya reckon?? They had to cut and renegotiate all over the place just to get under the cap (even once the cap went up by a rather considerable amount), we started out 22 mil under... by now, they must have renegotiated the deals of about a third of their roster, LOL...
