The classic list seems a little biased against the 80's, as you said no Run DMC, 1 PE, BKane, etc. and counted only a couple of non-coast groups; UGK - Ridin Dirty, Bone, and Outkast but that is pretty understandable considering rap was bread in NY and LA. I was glad to see some non-mainstream stuff made it on the modern list; UGK (very underrated group until Pimp C died) & Scarface (some of them I haven't listened to). These lists will always po some and vindicate others. Springs has been great @ expressing the perks of all types/sub-categories (ug) and would be hard to disagree with the impact most of the albums listed had on the genre. Outside of the Run DMC glaring hole, the list can be expected bc it is voter driven and seems to aspire to the bigger selling albums.

Thanks for posting that

No problem I figured true hip hop heads would love this type of stuff. I still like both lists for the most part even though there are glaring omissions. I am now going back and listening to each of these albums. It's exciting.

What did you listen to?

The first 4-5 pages of the thread. Then I had some stuff to do. But I've been pumping Nappy Roots' 2002 record non stop for days. Heard it at a bar here in Seattle last weekend and totally forgot those guys existed.

Yeah, there's so much good music in this thread. It's fun to go back and listen to it from time to time. It's almost like listening to a youtube playlist. lol. The other day when my son got home from work, he sat at the computer and listened to all twenty something pages of our videos. He said he f-in loved it. He's a huge wrap fan, he likes the "younger" stuff, like you do, JoeyBoy. 36 is hands down his favorite, along with all of the offshoots and solo performers to spring from or just collaborate with them. They are so damn good. Damn, they're good. He's on a LaChat kick right now. lol. She's a bad be-.yot** for sure. He was born in '90, so as much as he likes the older stuff too (I mean my real old stuff from the 80s, lol), he really gets into the underground scene from the 90's and 00's. But I do realize that this music is now also considered old and classic. lol. Time gets by, doesn't it?

Nappy Roots was awesome.

Anyway, happy listening, and I hope you get all your coding and stuff done.:)

Yeah, I was born in 86 and my favorite stuff is probably mid to late 90's. These young kids nowadays haven't even heard of people like Nas and Wu Tang. It's crazy. It's not like they're underground or anything.

lol. I just had a little laugh, your statement about the young kids today--you know I'm old, right??lol-- it reminded of the time my younger son, born in 94. well a few years ago. he was probably about 12 or so, he says to me, "mom, I just read that some guy named John Lennon was shot back in 1980. He was with a band called the Beatles." LOL!! I just gasped in shock and told him, "I have failed as a parent!" lol

That's just unfathomable. And yeah the 90s were the best/golden age of hip hop.

Hey hey now. Us older folks might argue with you on that one. lol.. I say it's the 80s! Yeah baby!:dance:

No really, the 90s hiphop was fna awesome. Hell, Snoop is hands down my favorite solo rapper. I love his smooth a-- voice. Can't beat it with a stick. I still wanna hear him rap the abc song. lol

Hey I'm probably the same age or older so I know about the 80s but the 90s took it to the next level. It's like the 80s are the Buffalo Bills no huddle offense of the 90s and the 90s are the Peyton Manning led no huddle offenses taking what the Bills did to another level.

Progression. Music has progressed and evolved in every genre. It has grown deeper and broader, better sounds due to better production equipment and sound systems, more freedom with words and lyrics, freedom of expression, more ideas coming from the ever evolving human mind and experience. The "sound" of music definitely has improved decade by decade, as technology continues to advance, allowing for not only an improved sound experience for the listener, but also allowing for more creative musical expression to blossom from the artist. As much as I love 80s hiphop, it didn't sound as "ear-gasmic" as the music that came later did, and with a few exceptions from the 80s era, it is very hard to beat the awesome bass that came about in the 90s and 00s.

But my favorite is still the original authentic and simple sound that came with a scratch record, a beatbox, and a very clever mind. Purity in sound is beautiful sometimes.

Hey, love the analogy, btw. Clever way to compare. Cool. And spot on.:)

Hey Kimrose,

Here are a couple of links that may be helpful regarding Memphis UG for your son (if he's looking). A lot of 36 UG included in there.

http://memphisraptapes.blogspot.com/

and for general UG listing (mid to late 90's mostly):

Thanks man. Went over and took a look and I think he will like it. I know he knows a lot of this, because we listen to it almost every morning when he gets home from work. Like right now, actually. lol. When he comes up for air, lol, I'll show him these lists.
