Rah, Rah..
(Outsidaz, huge influence on Eminem's early puchline style, he ran with them early in his career. Master Ace also had an influence on Em's early Flow)
awesome....can't forget this man either...
Important, were these men works... the original rhyming patterns.... as the years past, folks tried different cadences, rhyming in different patterns, off beat....etc.... I posted Rock Box last because that was where rock and hip hop met, Run DMC will always be considered pioneers for claiming to be "The King of Rock" in the world of B-Boys....Beastie Boys quickly followed suit..... gotta give Rush Management (Russell) Credit....he had some ground breaking acts.... and it allowed hip hop to invade popular music...... signaling the arrival of hip-hop as world force, but also signaling its eventual demise as a underground experimental urban art form.
Loving this thread. Keep up the good work.
Aahh, thanks man! I was racking my brain last night trying to remember Kurtis' name. I wanted to post one of his, too. I always dug the heck outta ole Kurtis Blow.
You and a few others mentioned Eric B. and Rakim. Rakim, and also D.O.C., are two of my sons all time favorites, and he is only 24 yrs old. Yeah, it really sucks what happened to DOC. I feel so bad for him. He also loves Three 6 Mafia, with DJ Paul and his brother Lord Infamous, who tragically died this past December, and the other goofies from that group. They've had their ups and downs, but they are one of the best groups I have ever heard. Can't really post much from them on here, though, as they can cuss it up more than Snoop can. LOL He liked Fat Pat a whole lot, too, he was murdered in Houston. Too young too sad.
heck... speaking of Houston!
Ghetto Boys...
Man, Scarface is so ill, and underrated.
BK stand up!Underrated and overrated are weird (for me) when it comes to hip hop. I've always been an underground hip hop head (my dad was a b-boy in Brooklyn in the late 70's/early 80's, and I've always been a fan and involved in the scene). So I feel like people like Scarface are both underrated and overrated. Most underground/pioneer followers I've met have always included Scarface in the top 5 of all time. I definitely wouldn't include him in my personal top 5. But then, if you look at mainstream, most people don't even know who he is, so in that regard, I'd definitely say he's underrated. Nonetheless, he's great. I appreciate every emcee who contributed positively to the movement.
