I would think anyone who was a Tom Landry fan would be for Bill Belichick. I call Belichick, Landry the 2nd, because he's as close as we've come to someone like that in modern day era. All Xs and Os, no emotion, etc....

But if it makes anyone feel better, Belichick is also boys with Jimmy. In Jimmy's book Swagger he talked a lot about the fishing trips and football conversations him and Bellichick had. And we know about the Bill Parcells relationship.

Belichick is connected to all 3 Cowboys coaching legends. You won't find anyone else out there like that. I say go for it and see if he still has it in him.

Disclaimer: What I think SHOULD happen is hire a guy who will change the culture, like a Jim Harbaugh, even if it means cutting ties with Dak and being a bottom dweller for a few years.

What I think WILL happen is we hire Bill Belichick and run it back with mostly the same players.

The loss to Green Bay was an embarrassment and Jerry knows it. Nobody trusts Dallas anymore, no matter how good they look. It’ll take years to rebuild trust the right way. But there’s one fast track. Bring in a guy who people trust more than they distrust Dallas.

Belichick doesn’t want another rebuild, and at 72 years old, he knows he only has 2-3 years left. Jerry only has 2-3 years left. Dak has played well enough that he can be trusted another 2-3 years.

Why would Jerry do it? There’s only one thing he loves more than he loves control - ratings. 24/7 headlines of “can Jerry and Bill coexist?” is a gold mine. And Bill is the only guy who will make people take Dallas seriously after the debacle against Green Bay. People taking Dallas seriously equals higher ratings. Jerry will tell Bill anything he wants to hear to get him to come to Dallas.

Why would Bill do it? Bill is the only guy in football with an ego to match Jerry’s. Tom Brady came out the winner in the Brady-Belichick divorce. The same reason LeBron went to the Lakers, winning a title in Dallas has a different effect on one’s legacy. Also, Bill knows he doesn’t have much time left, so he’s more likely to tolerate some of Jerry’s ego than he would’ve been 10 years ago.

Imagine the headlines if Dallas signs Belichick and runs it back with Dak, CeeDee, Parsons. People will forget quick about how things ended in Green Bay.
I think in the situation we are in...all of the things you pointed out....this is the best choice.

You bring someone in that no one can question his credentials (including Jerry), you get someone who knows what a winning culture is and how to build it. You get someone who knows how to not let the other team destroy them with their best player.

For the short term, this is the best option.

You can extend out Dak and free a bunch of cap. You can then swap out and replace a lot of the issues on this team with good tough players.

The Harbough infatuation I don't get. He was already an NFL head coach with the 49ers for 4 years...similar results to McCarthy in Dallas. I don't care what he did in college...

I'm down with hiring Harbaugh, but only if Jerry gives him full autonomy. He should be able to run the team any way he sees fit, and Jerry should back off and let him do it.

Nice post.
Well thought out speculation as to how Jerry might think and all the surrounding circumstances as well.

He values Jimmy's opinion. Would Jimmy recommend working for Jerry?

Nail on the head. Jerry wants to win every year, he's a glass is half full guy who always believes that we are just a player or two away, a bad ref decision from winning it all when in truth we've been flat track bullies for 15 years, and haven't put a team together that can consistently trouble the best teams.

Other owners and GMs see the value in rebuilding, getting the most value out of your best players when your squad isn't good enough, setting the organization up to build with young hungry talented players that fit a playing style and strategy.

We absolutely SHOULD be trading Dak now while he has value to a team that is more complete than ours but could use a QB who could win a superbowl with the right team around him.

We absolutely should be getting multiple first round picks for Parsons now while his stock is high.

Take a few down years to rebuild and really take a run at building a team that could go all the way.. instead of this year after year of limbo where we are good, but not that good.

Harbaugh went to 3 straight NFC Championships with the Niners. In Dallas, making one NFC Championship is a pipe dream.

He continued on to 1 Super Bowl, and would have made it to another if Kyle Williams didn't muff 2 punts.

That's what I think should happen by the way, I agree with the OP.. Jerry will likely bring in BB thinking he can take this same squad and win with it.

Bringing in BB is a big rebuild. He would for sure change the defense to a 3-4 and we don't have any of the players needed for that.

Jerry would bring Billicheck in before he lets go of Dak. I would not be surprised by that move as I think Billicheck would think he could probably work with Dak even with his playoff flaws!

It needs to happen. Bill and Jim are the only available coaches out there that have the ability and pull to correct the course of this organization. Anyone else gets run over by the Jerral train, and we repeat the cycle for another 30 years.

It's crazy enough to work.

Belichick is only going to come coach for a turn-key job, with a quarterback and some decent talent already in place. The only teams with that kind of an opening are the Chargers, hopefully the Cowboys, and maybe the Seahawks. So I think there is some smoke to this fire
This team has no discipline. BB can provide it. If he comes he'll be allowed to do his job or he will leave. He's not of the MM mold where he'll sit there and take it over and over. In fact there may be more limelight than he can tolerate in Dallas.

3 Straight NFC Title games, and a loss by inches in the Super Bowl.
With Kaepernick at QB?

how is that even remotely comparable to what McCarthy has done in Dallas?
