By Peter Svensson, AP Technology Writer , On Thursday December 31, 2009, 11:54 am

NEW YORK (AP) -- AT&T Inc. said Thursday it would no longer sponsor Tiger Woods, joining Accenture in dropping support for the world's top golfer, who is taking a break from the sport to focus on his marriage after his admitted infidelity.

The phone company hasn't used Woods' image extensively in advertising, but its logo appeared on his golf bag. That deal had been billed as a "multiyear" agreement when it was signed early in 2009, after Buick ended its endorsement one year early because of its financial woes.

Woods has also been the host of the AT&T National PGA Tour event since it started in 2007. Tour spokesman Ty Votaw said that since Woods is on indefinite leave from professional golf, he will not serve as host for the 2010 event. However, his Tiger Woods Foundation will continue to be the beneficiary of the AT&T National, under a contract that runs through 2014, Votaw said.

AT&T said it would continue to sponsor the event.

Woods won the 2009 AT&T National in July at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The AT&T National is moving to Aronomick Country Club outside Philadelphia the next two years as Congressional prepares to host the 2011 U.S. Open.

AT&T has also been the presenting sponsor of the annual Tiger Jam concert event in Las Vegas.

AT&T, which is based in Dallas, did not comment on its reasons for dropping Woods, or how much the relationship was worth.

Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, had no comment on AT&T's decision.

Consulting firm Accenture dropped the athlete two weeks ago, saying he was "no longer the right representative" of the company's values.

Gillette, a unit of the Procter & Gamble Co., also has said it won't air ads for its razors that include Woods or include him in public appearances.

Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer, a unit of luxury goods empire LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, also said that it would "downscale" its use of golfer Tiger Woods' image in its advertising campaigns for the foreseeable future.

Electronic Arts Inc., which puts out the "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" series of golf video games, has not said what its plans are for the franchise. The company did not immediately return requests for comment Thursday. Nike Inc. and PepsiCo Inc.'s Gatorade are other big sponsors that haven't severed their ties.

AP Golf Writer Doug Ferguson in Honolulu contributed to this report.

At this stage but I think people will give Tiger a second chance and sponsors will want Tiger back somewhere along the line.

I think right now there is a lot of piling on of Tiger and people are forgetting how much good he has done off the golf course. He made a mistake but that mistake is really between Tiger and his wife and all the good he has done should not be overlooked.

Eh, he made "a" mistake? He had a mile long string of hos while his wife was at home with his kid and pregnant.

The guy is a total d-bag, and has been for a long time.

Yeah, no kidding. I didn't know having multiple affairs was "a mistake."

Accidentally bumping into someone is a mistake. Sleeping with many women besides your wife is not.

And that is between him and his wife, not you not me or anyone else but him and his wife. He has also spent millions in the Tiger Wood foundations to help underprivileged kids as well as many other charitable ventures which he has not only put the money but the time. Yes what he did was very wrong but that is between a man and his wife.

And his sponsors, who have an image to uphold.

Tiger's life as he knew it...personally and professionally will NEVER be the same.

He will never get back to where he was...and he shouldn't.

When you build your empire on your personal image as he has done and do what he did...well the party's over.

I agree, those companies have every right to pull their sponsorship from him. Those who choose to stay with Tiger they have that right as well.

professionally he is the greatest player out there and his talent is not going to come to an end. Most of the PGA golfers owe alot to Tiger the reasons the season money total went from 60 to 280 mill a year was because of Tiger Woods. The game still needs him. His personal image yes is and will continue to be tarnished but I think many of the good things Tiger has done outside the game will be things he will continue to do.

I'm talking professionally as in endorsements.

That's never going to be the same.

That is hard to say today. Some of the endorsement may not but others will take there place. How Tiger plays and conducts himself over time will attract endorsements down the line. One thing I have learned over the years people are quick to put a person on the pedistal and quick no knock them down when they faulter but they also tend to forgive over time. The ball is in Tiger court of how he conducts himself as time goes on.

He'll be just like Kobe. Lose some endorsements now but give him a couple of years and he'll be back to where he was.

Oh...I thought title meant the signal was dropped.:D

As someone else posted...having multiple affairs with multiple women is not a mistake. Furthermore it is not just between his wife and his family since it also seems to be between a bunch of women giving interviews or posting videos about it.

As someone commented. He has created an image of being a good guy, all american squeaky clean type of image and that has taken a huge hit, but as others have said, in time he will get endorsements back when it blows over some and he starts winning again. Or some other big Hollywood or sports scandal happens and they start focusing on it instead of Tiger.

Wish someone had video of his wife beating the hell out of his Escalade with a golf club. Wonder if his home security cameras caught it.

I guess you can only start threads about some celebrities.

Edit: Oh, now I get it. Had to think about that one for a few seconds, heh.

I have always had this theory about guys having affairs... for every one you know about, there's 9 others you don't.

And with Tiger, we know about 14..!!
