Well I can certainly say I'm glad I'm not the only one who lost the fact that there was a linked article included. The video knocked the wind out me and that's all I saw.

If I were a betting man, I'd say this was a suicide attempt. This looks intentional to me for the following reasons:
1- he passes a cop car on the left shoulder of the highway at a very high rate of speed then continues into the grass
2- and he never hits the brakes, until he goes airborne. That's when you see the brake lights go on, which tells me that the car isn't broken or malfunctioning as he's passing the cop car.

You're completely right. That's what I thought when I first saw it. Then, I saw the article and saw his picture. He looks like he has problems. I bet he's thinking now, "Damn, what did I do wrong? I should have died in that crash."
