Who deserves the 5th WR spot next season?

Who do you think will get it?

The guy who goes out in the OTA and training camp and earns it. Hurd no doubt has more experiance having been with us but I would not be surprised to see Holley or Johnson push Hurd. In the end who wins the battle makes me no differance I want the guy who shows the most.

Holley bad-mouthed Dirk and said he didn't have it like Lebron and co on the radio the other day

so he can take his practice squad *** and **** off somewhere else.

hopefully a draft pick fills a higher slot..not #5

Hopefully it literally fills the slot position. Jordan Shipley or Jacoby Ford is what I want. But Shipley is more of a slot receiver. Ford would probably play the #4 behind Crayton.

When you're talking about finding the #5 WR who makes the active roster, you're talking about finding the guy that can contribute most on special teams, not at WR.

Right now, I honestly think that Holley can take Hurd out as the better WR, but until Holley improves his coverage-game on specials (and he's not bad now, mind you) he won't take Hurd's spot.

I'm actually hoping Holley does improve his coverage game, because if he does, two positions get upgraded. Until that hsappens, Hurd will hold onto the spot.

EDIT: And I don't know that Johnson deserves mention here because he's too raw at WR, and on specials projects as a coverage guy. That's not good news for him since Dallas tried everything they demed reasonable to improve the overal lreturn game in 2009, except that anything they tried dod not include activating Johnson. That doesn't speak to well for his chances.

I agree. 5th WR has to be able to contribute on special teams be it as a cover man or return man.

If I recall correctly, Holley showed VERY little in camp last year. Maybe he's improved. Manny Johnson showed flashes but wasn't consistent.

Hurd, on the other hand, arguably outperformed Austin in camp AND has been a mainstay on ST. Based on current evidence, Hurd would be the choice, and it wouldn't even be close.

But what happens in the 2010 training camp is yet to be seen. There are always some surprises.

If Ogletree wins the KR job, Hurd is guaranteed a spot as the #5 WR. If Ogletree doesn't prove to be the guy as a KR, then Hurd's spot IMO is in serious jeopardy since there would be an obvious need for a KR at that #5spot. With Felix likely getting 15+ touches on offense next year, we probably wont see much of him on KR.

Ogletree does not deserve to be bumped down to #5....

he'll be number 4..he's still raw give him some time. I hope to find either a number 2 receiver after Austin, to replace Williams or a slot receiver to replace crayton, either in the draft or in free agency. 1) Austin 2) RW or Draft Pick 3) Crayton or Draft pick 4) Ogletree 5) Johnson

shipley, mccluster, ford could fill the slot

Tate, Williams, Been could replace Williams. I hope either 2 or 3 gets an upgrade.

Hard to tell. We might carry 6 WR next year, and my guess is Holley and Johnson won't be one of them.

I think we'll acquire one through the draft.

I agree. I think the Cowboys need to draft a wr with speed and play-making ability , along with kick/punt return ability. Would love to see the boys draft Shipley.

I like Shipley not because he was a Longhorn he is an outstanding WR with good speed, very good hands and the ability to return punts and kicks. Add to that he is a very heads up and smart player
