It will be who goes out and earns it at TC and such but I'd say, right now, out of those three that Hurd will easily win out cause his Special teams play, which is what they're looking at when they decide on the 5th WR, will be more than enough to carry him past Johnson and Holley.

Going to the same college does not make 2 different players the same. They are individual players not college made carbon copies

Yeah, and Texas sucks. We didn't deserve to play in the National Championship game.

I think when you look at college kids entering the draft you look at their abilities more than where they went to school. I like Shipley based on what I have seen from him not the fact he went to Texas.

I freely admit I'm a Longhorns fan having said that I loved McCoy at QB but that does not mean I think Dallas should get him or that he should go in day 1 of the draft being a great college QB does not mean he will have success in the NFL which was the case for Major Applewhite great college QB but did not have the tools to become a starting NFL caliber QB.

As for Jordan Shipley he has very good hands, good speed and is a very intelligent player who keeps his head in the game and is a hard worker. I would love to have player like him no matter what school he went to.

He'll never be anything more than a fringe/PS player.

For the most part I agree, but I don't think people like Major Applewhite got the chance he deserved. He's 31 years old right now, he's in his prime and he hasn't played football in almost 10 years. There was a time when rookie QBs starting just didn't happen. You sit on the bench a few years until you're ready. These days if a rookie QB isn't ready to start, he may or may not get a chance when in reality he could be a great player one day. Look at Colt McCoy, he's not NFL ready right now. He'll probably get drafted onto a team however, and there's a chance here in a few years he'll be ready to start in the NFL and he might become a very good player for all we know. Vince Young might somewhat turn out to be an example, but he's still got some more to prove this next year.

And some guys just lack the skill set to do it on the next level. Applewhite was a long shot when he came to the NFL.

McCoy I do think will get a better opportunity than Major did but there is some real doubts about McCoy physical skills and how that may translate in the NFL.

Could he overcome it? Sure Tony Romo proved that because some did not think that high of you coming out of college is not a death sentence but the odds are stacked against you.

IMhumbleO, Manuel Johnson. Then after that Holley has the best upside. Hurd is fluid, his finest attribute is that he has a heart you can't measure but Manny is also a natural and more athletic. He may even surpass Ogletree and/or Roy Williams on the depth chart by the end of training camp.

draft Riley "White Lightning" Cooper

automatic 5th WR

We haven't had any white lightening since Patrick Jeffers' injury. It is such a shame for that kid as it looked like he had some ability before his injury.

Doug Donley (?sp) was the original Cowboiys white lightening but that was about 30 years ago.

BTW, Cooper is a guy who looked intriguing from what I remember of the bits of Gators game I saw over the last couple of years. It'll be interesting to see if he amounts to anything at the next level. You have to like the size and functional speed on the field.

I see a lot of Miles Austin in him

people thought he was really raw because he had only that one good year, last year (had injuries, and was stuck behind a bevy of NFL pros before then)

but he surprised a lot of people with his ability to run routes, and how well he caught the ball at the Senior Bowl

and like you said, he has a great size/speed combination

he scored a TD .2 times, every time he caught the ball at Florida

Jordan Shipley.... :)

Shipley wouldn't be bad, he can return kicks, punts, play a little slot and hold for kicks.

Who deserves the 5th WR spot next season?

Who do you think will get it?

if we don't add another WR it would be Hurd. he is a really good proven special teams player. unless the other two can show they can be better on special teams, I think its hurd. how many chances does a 5th WR get anyway? plus Hurd has shown on spot duty he can produce on the field.
