As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I always have some hope, even in the dark days we have now. For me, the only fun left in the 2024 season now is hopefully seeing some of our young players develop and how good our draft position will be for 2025.

Obviously we are stuck with JJ for the immediate future. But because of a bunch of expiring contracts ending this year, this team will have some serious cap space compared to prior seasons and the opportunity for a real rebuild will be there. A new HC, new coordinators, and a bunch of new faces will be in place next year, so at least we will see lots of changes. The opportunity for a fresh start is there in such a way, even a blind squirrel like Jerry may find a nut.

I am working on a 2025 rebuild post I will share tomorrow. There are multiple ways a rebuild can go. I hope our rebuild is aggressive and includes getting everything and everyone in place early; no more of this waiting until the last minute.

2025 is an opportunity for a bunch of change.

I’d guess RB1, RG1, RT1, LB1, and WR2 are gonna need help.

Maybe Mingo can help with WR2….

would lIke to see their big board at the Star.

Here’s the short version, we like our guys and pay big contracts for them, we draft so well we be looking for the next Taco, Tristan, Jaylon, LVE, Bossman or Gallop. Some really good FA dumpster diving along with some UFL players and viola a championship caliber team according to Jerry along with the usual I’m in the best shape of my life. Look forward to the 3 guys making a combined 130 million a season talking greatness while producing mediocre on the field

One of the main things is that the 2 rookies on the offensive line HAVE to pan out....rebuilding the trenches on both sides of the ball and addressing many other areas is hard to do in a timely way.

Interior defensive line and LBs have to be priority #1

The important question is, what is on your gameday menu?

I remember the strike season, probably being the worst year in football ever for me.
This season feels the same
it was actually the strike season that started the salary cap

No, we dont 'have serious cap space at all' (in terms of $ nor hen compared to the rest of the league). Another factor is that restructuring Dak is now near impossible as we dont have, what we had before, the luxury of extending his Dead Money through the length of another contract. Surely, Jerry isnt insane enough to go through another (so called) negotiation with France.

60 million for Dak, 34 million for CeeDee and they still have to sign Parsons....

Is a rebuild even possible?

A successful rebuild would not only have good frontline players but also capable backups. With more than half the cap going to three players, how is that even possible?

The only backup the Cowboys are capable of affording in the near future is good luck. Historically, that would require a complete reversal of fortune.

Also add in that Tyler is going to want LT money to re-sign or he's hitting the market and will get well paid like a LT..... @Bobhaze another factor that plays into our imminent CAP 'concerns'.

Lets hope and pray!

I don’t want these two handling a rebuild.

They don’t know how to commit to a solid coach with fresh schemes and build a team that can best execute those schemes. They collect players and coaches and try to piece them together.

They aren’t knowledgeable or aggressive enough…or appear to have the stones for that matter, to properly trade players for picks, select the right ones, and know when to become buyers in free agency. It’ll be some sort of half-measure so they can still sell the product.

They need several years of humiliation before going the Parcells-type route again. I promise they aren’t at that point just yet, so figure 4-5 years before any proper rebuild can begin.

The hope is that you hire an excellent coach, draft really well with these high picks, and then catch lightning in a bottle the first year or two of the new coach's tenure.

Because we know that the longer a coach is in place, the more Jerry inserts himself into, well, everything. And that's when things start falling apart. Just like this year. Some of us noticed even in training camp that he was talking much more and "taking charge" more than he had in a while.

They had their window when Lamb and Parsons were on rookie deals and performing at a high level.

Instead of at least trying to add proven players to get over the top during that period, they chose to start saving their pennies so they could sign those two years down the road.

The other hope is, sometimes after embarrassing seasons or playoff losses JJ occasionally wakes up and realizes he needs to back off some. (It’s never enough of course)

In 2003-05 with Parcells.(JJ of course meddled again in 2006) JJ had to get the new stayjum planned and approved so he was willing to let a strong HC come in and have major influence.

I know it’s not big hope and I completely understand when fans say there is no hope. I get that. But IMO there is always some hope. It may not be currently visible. Maybe it’s just a match in cave but there will be a chance for a decent rebuild in 2025. Not saying it’s guaranteed of course, but it is possible.

I've actually been trying not to think about those resigning situations....but it's reality.

Damn, I wish we could look forward to a QB on a rookie salary again

Any rebuild they do has to start at DT or it is going to be more of the same in my opinion.

You can't have a small DE like MP surrounded by garbage, they have to stop the run.
