Hope for Brice Butler over TWill

If he can stay healthy, I think Butler has a good chance of unseating TWill at #2. He is more physical, bigger catch radius, and better hands catcher. TWill probably has better straight line speed, but Butler seems to be able to make better plays on the ball downfield. Would be a nice development, considering this is Twill's contract year. Here's some highlights of Butler before he joined Dallas (just FF thru some of the chaff).

I hope TWill is challenged by the entire WR roster of not just Brice Butler, but Vince Mayle, Rodney Smith, Andy Jones, Chris Brown. BRING IT!

Many here hate to admit it, but this is a very bad WR lineup behind Dez. After Dez went down last year, it exposed them for just how bad they really are. WR is a much bigger need in next year's draft than fans think. It would be an unpopular pick, but I would like to see one picked in the first next year. No later than the second.

I like Beasley and Lucky a lot but neither can start. Butler has a shot but I agree with you overall and would love to see us draft a WR high.

I wonder if their will be interest in Cordarelle Patterson if the vikes cut him loose a year early. He's dropped to the bottom of the depth chart. Dooley's guy and the Cowboys reportedly were trading down for him rather than Fred.

Beasley is a good WR , but is limited. I like the job he does out of the slot. I haven't seen enough of Lucky at WR to form an opinion on him. Dez is inconsistent at times and he gets lost his fair share of injuries. The team really doesn't have a solid number two WR and they sure don't have one capable of filling in and producing in Dez's spot. I was hoping Treadwell would have dropped a little more . He would have totally changed the passing offense.

I'm expecting the best year from TWill if only because it's a contract year.

Our WRs are fine when we've got out QB throwing to them. We'll draft one high to replace Williams next year, regardless.

I think TWill is fine as a 3 (Witten is our 2) but Butler is a pure burner. He ran mid 4.3s several times. Williams speed is pedestrian, 4.52 at the combine. TWill relies on deception and not having a safety over the top. To me this is the main reason he struggled with Dez out.

To me Butler lacks the most important thing a football player has to have, and that's to actually show up ready to play on Sunday. Between that and a contract year and our coaches attitude toward veterans from our system, I can't see anyone but TWill oposite Dez this year.

It could also have to do with the routes they have Twill and others run ??
T will seems to be good on crossing patterns, sort of deep slants, or going to middle of field, but JG
doesnt like those type, it is mostly sideline routes.
When the camera is behind romo and they show that, most often there is no one in middle of the field.
They are all over by sidelines.

Devin Street just doesn't have the speed or quickness to play in the league. That was an odd pick. Fire that scout.

I'm expecting WR to be one of the top 2 needs next year with QB.

A 4.55 40 isn't terrible. The what's his name receiver (who was supposed to be a high 1st round pick) ran a 4.65.

People often forget how good Williams was in 2014, especially in the playoffs. He came alive and scored 3 Tds in two games. Williams is a serviceable number 2 with great potential. Give it a rest already.

Average #2 with decent potential, there fixed it for you.

TWill can beat the CB2s but not the CB1s........he is what he is......a good WR2 that has no claim on the starting job or second contract......Romo trusts beat him so Butler will really have to shine to replace him..

TWill should have shown some progress by now. He still catches the ball with his body and he still struggles getting off coverage. He is the exact same player as he was when he was drafted.

nope. don't see it.

williams was excellent in 2014 and I have a feeling he is going to be great in a contract year in 2016.

Broaddus mentioned last week there is some concern with butler that he doesn't really love football and enjoys the things football allows him to do off the field more.

No idea if that is true or what, but he said he it and also said gregory doesn't really like football that much either.

I believe in williams and also since this butler over williams is the offseason blogger story of the year I assume that means it has no chance.

It would take care of Return duties as well, if he made it past waivers.

Williams is a pure ancillary player. He reminds me of James Jones when they had Nelson and Jennings. Basically a good outside WR in subpackages that can hurt a defense but you rely on him

Thank God he was around in the 2014 playoffs!

If Dez were more like Antonio Brown, there would be no worries about Williams.

Problem isn't that Williams disappears, the problem is that Dez does as well.

Williams and Bryant have similar skill sets. Dez is athleticly superior, but TWill has a better feel of how to get open.

I believe TWill is quite underrated.

If you're blaming him for not being productive while Cassel was the starter... Please

Nobody will have a problem w him when he helps us get another 12-4 record!

Dez needs to be a 110-115 catch guy instead of a 85 catch guy. He does that, Williams will be more than fine.
