Hope for Brice Butler over TWill

Williams is just fine as long as Romo is throwing to him. In an offense that has Bryant, Witten, and Beasley, there are only so many balls to go around. Go back and look at the 90s Cowboys...Williams is Alvin Harper. A #2 WR catching 35-40 balls is exceptional. The most passes Harper ever caught during his Dallas days was 36. Hell, Williams has never caught less than 37, and that was in the 2014 season.

He's not a #1, I get that. Neither was Harper when he went to Tampa Bay. His best season as the #1 w a whopping 46 catches. Like Williams, however, he was a very adequate #2.

With Dez and Witten getting their catches, Williams/Butler or any other WR getting 40 would be outstanding.

Williams is underrated and Butler is overrated

they are both overated. I might be a little negative here but we found out last year that after Bryant we do not have a quality starting receiver on the team to me. I bet after Bryant none of our receivers would be starters for over three quarters of teams in the league.

Of course I'd *hope* for Butler over Williams, why, because Williams has already proven that he can produce in this league. Is he a #1, no, but he has made a lot of plays, so of course I'd want Butler to outplay him. Not likely, but one can wish, no?

Having all the hope in the world doesn't change anything. It's not a question if Brice has the talent to outperform TWill, undoubtedly he does... it's a matter of will power. Brice's largest foe his whole career has been Brice. He needs to figure out what is most important to him and how bad he wants it. It doesn't matter what we want or what we hope for. It's up to Brice and frankly, I wouldn't bet on him.

It didn't take Butler long to be seriously afflicted with the same hamstring injury that plagued Miles Austin throughout his career. Hopefully, he'll remain healthy long enough to offer an indication if he can either relieve or replace T-Will or Street. As much as it seemed urgent for us to draft a promising WR in the draft this year, we failed to do so. Outside of one of our UDFA WRs to shine in camp, it appears it'll be left for next year.

nope. don't see it.

williams was excellent in 2014 and I have a feeling he is going to be great in a contract year in 2016.

Broaddus mentioned last week there is some concern with butler that he doesn't really love football and enjoys the things football allows him to do off the field more.

No idea if that is true or what, but he said he it and also said gregory doesn't really like football that much either.

I believe in williams and also since this butler over williams is the offseason blogger story of the year I assume that means it has no chance.

Problem with Romo is he needs his receivers to be wide open for him to pass them the ball..if he sees that a wr is remotely covered he will look away...it affects our receivers production.

This is false. He throws it up for Dez all the time. He throws Witten and Beasley open regularly. He doesn't trust the other guys and nor should he. They haven't earned it.

Cool story but it reads like garbage to me.

Carroll left USC and Kiffin buried him on the depth chart when he took over. He was at the Raiders who until very recently didn't have a QB.

WR is a difficult position to transfer from college to the pros. Each route requires precision with its own caveats that differ from team to team, QB to QB. He started to click in this offense. I have heard no reports that he hasn't been working out with the team. His competition is vulnerable after disappointing the past two years. You bet on them if you want.

I bet on nothing when it comes to the Cowboys.

I think Williams has a career year.

Why? Because he is an underachiever in a contract year.

Williams had crappy hands. Crappy hands is crappy hands. To me crappy hands is like having an inaccurate QB. You either have it or you don't. Body catching doesn't work against good corners.

This is truth.

Williams is a good compliment to what we do with Bryant. Period. Beyond that, you are asking too much. We found that out last year when Bryant could not physically make it on the field.

Butler? Well, he is what he has been until he proves otherwise.

And I hope it is a Bruce Carter year for him and we are not dumb enough to fall for it.

He is not a second contract WR.

A 4.55 40 isn't terrible. The what's his name receiver (who was supposed to be a high 1st round pick) ran a 4.65.

Bolden? I don't think he was a high round pick. However, he was a physical receiver. Something which TWill is not.
