How about Brett Maher?

Dude has been an absolute beast. JG set him up for failure with that first kick from 55 yards or whatever it was. He missed it but has not blinked since. Powered right through. Very impressive.

Haha what? It was like 46 yards. Set him up for failure? Come on.

How about this kid?

Not exactly "pressure" kicks, but kicks none the less.

Anyone else just love seeing the ball hit the net when kicking from 50+?

Turning me into a believer. Need to see these kicks when were fighting to get to 8-8 and a possible playoff spot.

Count me as one of the (many) who were irritated/puzzled by the decision to let Bailey go.

While I still think Dan could and would have done an excellent job, the fact is the performance has not dropped off in his absence.

Well done Maher. This is a gamble that appears to have turned our way, rather nicely.

I think I read yesterday that, due to Bailey's woes over the past year, he is now the fourth most accurate kicker in NFL history.

Money Maher is well on his way.

Of course not.

The whining on this board after Bailey was released and then after the kid missed his first kick was insufferable.

Yep. There were posters here that guaranteed Maher would be a dud and cost us games. Some said there wasn't even a chance he would do well. Obviously there are still a lot of games to play, but just as obviously those posters want to avoid their words now.

In fairness, I was concerned about the move, but I always am willing to give a guy a chance to prove himself.

My only problem with Maher is that he’s already 28 years old.

20-20 hindsight. Yes it worked out, but releasing a kicker mostly because of one bad year was a risk, glad it worked out, but it could easily have been a bad decision.

I'll give Garrett (if it was his decision, I suspect the kicking coach/special teams coach told Garrett that was their recommendation, and what reason would Garrett have to refute their opinion?) credit, after all he's the head coach, ultimately the responsibility is mostly his, can't blame him for all the bad results and not credit him for a good result...

Definitely was a concern at the time, and it didn't bother me that people questioned the move. What did bother me though, was that some wouldn't even allow room in their mind for a possibility it might work out. Some were very harsh about the move, and said it was idiotic, and there was no room for thinking otherwise. I always have a problem when people won't even give something a chance. Obviously this isn't the first time a move was made in the NFL that fans questioned that worked out.

I thought it was funny that Romo's sidekick kept referring to him as a kid or young just because it's officially his first year in the league. He's only a couple of years younger than Bailey.

Kid's kicking with supreme confidence. That leg of his is electric. First time I actually could hear the ball bang off the 2nd level balcony 2x in the same game on TV.

You mean Jerry & Co. not garrett, he doesn't make personnel decisions. He still doesn't even have a say so If a player will player or not lol.
Bingo. But they made the right call there. Loved me some Bailey but it was time to move on. Maher is kicking lights out.

I also give a lot of credit to our long snapper. L.P. has been an absolute beast for a long time. Maher could simply be better than he was in his previous stops because of L.P. I remember what it was like before we had him.

Could be an issue, but with kickers like Vinateri, Andersen, Dawson, etc. there's reason to believe he can be around for at least 10 years...

NEVER ever think this way with kickers. I've vocally supported the move here because my eyes and intuition told me Bailey lost something (don't care why) and his benefit of the doubt ran out for me games 15 and 16 last season.

Maher is proving very worthy. But if he should falter he should go too. There is very little margin for error in this league and you must have a solid kicker. If it's for 10 years, awesome. If it's for 6 games and the kicks don't get home, you assess and move on if need be.
