How about Taco!

Goodrich only was active for 16 games for the Boys. Who knows what he may have been if not for his off the field thing.

And before that off-the-field thing, he was widely viewed as a colossal bust and a terrible draft pick. He was getting torched like an undrafted free agent.

I fully expected to come to this thread and see "Watt this, Watt that." Truth is, we have no idea who will be better. Neither guy has done much yet. Both have shown flashes.

Comparison after 14 games

Taco Charlton - 14 games - 12 tackles - 2 sacks - 1 forced fumble - 1 pass defended - 6 hurries
Randy Gregory- 14 games - 15 tackles - 1 sack - 0 forced fumble - 0 pass defended - 8 hurries

I hated the pick and still do. Really wanted Watt for pedigree alone. Taco did have a nice game vs OAK but even still we’re gettint excited that he was active and around the qb I’ll get excited when he’s taking the QB down

I’m sure the same set of elite talent scouts that wanted to rule Taco a bust 3 games into his rookie season were the same ones that declared Aaron Donald a bust because he rode the bench his first four games.

A good 1 Tech ala Gilbert Brown would make everything night and day different.
Those types have become almost obsolete due to the Zone Blocking Scheme. DT must flow down the line against the ZBS and the lard-arse types couldn't do it. There are some freaks like Snacks Harrison and Dontari Poe that have quickness at the 340+ weights but that's rare.

Marinelli tends to go to the opposite extreme with 1tech around 300 pounds but most team have guys in the middle at around 315 to 320.

One convenient place to review players is at the link below. Click on the team, then depth chart, then defense then the player then info. You can see the starting DTs or NTs and see their listed weight.

There are some around 330 (Joseph, Ellis, etc.), Harrison/Poe over 340 but most are in the sub 320 range.

Hes been a soft Taco all year. Only because he's a rookie....I expect a crunchy Taco next year with multiple sacks....

How about the fact that all it took was for him to get more reps and be on the field. These coaches are some of the worst talent evaluators. I will give them the Awuzie over Brown decision though.

If I remember correctly, even Garrett didn't start Dez or didn't play him as much as he should have the first part of Dez's rookie year. Can't remember for sure. Maybe others remember it differently.

He has had to play 1tech instead of his natural position of 3trch.

Also he has a foot injury that he is playing through.
Time will tell, but I think Collins has always been a 1 Tech, and his best games have come from 1Tech. He’s big and strong, not nifty enough for 3 Tech in my opinion.

He played 3tech last season. He received accolades for last season.

He has played primarily 1tech this season and has received much criticism.

The concensus last season was that he fell in the draft due to being used in a 1tech type role in college but then excelled with the Cowboys because they made him a 3tech.

Couldn't start until he was a senior on a terrible Michigan team, then managed only mediocre stats in a mediocre conference against the lesser teams.

Yeah, I watched him play. He's a 4th round talent.

They played a 3-4 until 2016. He started playing 4-3 DE and was excellent improving as the year went on. He is doing the same this season in improving as the season goes on.

He faced some quality tackles and came up big and big games.

4th round talent? That is absurd. Sure the one year of production and lack of elite athletic metrics takes him out of the top of the first every ratings service had him from 15 to 40. Most everyone had him in the first round.

Taco is an invisible Taco. He pretty much sucks. so maybe they will bench him. It would be great if Dez would also "beast" by actually studying how to run a route during this week. It would probably be a first time. If we could cut Witten this week too it would be the trifecta.

Once he gets some more strength, he will be like another David Irving out there and I want that. He is very athletic for a guy 6'7". He is not going to run as fast as a guy 6'2", but his athleticism is there. A guy his size doesn't have to run all the way around the tackle, so we don't need to be worried that he doesn't have elite measureables. He is going to rush differently than a shorter player. I expect him to be equally as effective though. There aren't that many guys with his size and length and athleticism (Parcel's planet theory). He's coming along nicely.
