How can we win with Brad Sunday?

As ESPN personality Scott Van Pelt says (why am I quoting Scott Van Pelt?) this is a week-to-week league. What we think we know tonight won't mean much Sunday. Just look at New England, San Diego, Philadelphia and countless others on a weekly basis.

How this pertains to us? For as bad as we looked Sunday, it might not mean anything next Sunday.

Of course, that's predicated around our team having some balls, some want-to and being able to not only generate a quality scheme, but actually execute it. On second thought ... maybe the week-to-week league thing won't apply to us. :laugh2:
It has, actually. If anything we've been inconsistent this season.

You underestimate the Bucs big time, IMO. There's no scenario in which Brad Johnson is playing that we win easily. Gaines Adams is going to dominate Flo and Colombo.

I'm not underestimating the Bucs. Based on what I know at this point, we get destroyed.

However, if we CAN open lanes for Barber and stop the Bucs from running the ball effectively, we should win.

WE have to play a style of football this team has not shown in forever

Dominating defense that imposes it's will on a team; year like that is going to happen.

Special team will need to play like it has not in forever allowing no big returns keeping teams from starting at the 35 so much. Change field position and give us a lot of short fields.

Controlling the line of scrimmage on both side of the ball

No turnovers (om we are -6)

Create turnovers (This team ranks near the bottom at that)

Limit the penalties especially in critical spots (like 3rd and short)
No stupid penalties that we always seem to get

In other words a game that we never seen played under Wade

The Bucs are the best team in football.

So I'll say their plane crashing is the only chance.

Garcia poses a problem for us with his mobility. It may lead to more sacks, but also more big plays and 3rd down conversions. Also, TB defense is playing at a different speed right now. We are going to have a very hard time containing that front four. Our OL will have to play much better. The formula is this. Solid Oline play, mid range to short passes, steady run game, and screens.

How anyone can say that at this juncture is amazing.

As others have said:

STs must not give them short fields

win the turnover battle and lose no more 1-2

protect Johnson and give him time to hit some intermediate routes

throw as many quick passes as is effective

run for at least 120 preferably 160+

hold them to less than 100 yds rushing

keep their YAC to a minimum

mix up the pass coverage with some press or at least protect some against short routes but mix it up

front five must get pressure and contain Garcia

mix blitzes, stunts, twists up with some DB and LB blitzes as well

rush Ware and Ellis as much as possible but they must drop into coverage some; cover that with blitzes etc if the front four-five can't get consistent pressure

hit a few big plays on offense, defense and STs across the board

Folk needs to be money as some drives will stall

keep the penalties to a true NFL minimum and don't kill good drives

Williams must get the ball some this week to force fair coverage of Witten and TO. They can't double all three.

Miles needs to have a good game to help above

If Johnson can get time to throw and allow long routes to develop he can get it down the field when he can step into the throw. He needs to be sure they have separation and throw the ball to the right spots away from the D

We must keep them guessing on our offense and defense. They cannot know what's coming and be able to jump routes esp the short ones.

They must stop Dunn and Graham from big runs even if they keep them around 100 yds; we won't be able to score with big plays often enough so we cannot get behind. If so we must stick with our game plan.

Garrett has to jump all over any break down in protection of Johnson. He cannot try to let Adams play thru it hoping to keep an asset in the offense. He has to learn when to back off and protect the QB over threatening the D with extra weapons.

We must dictate to them and not vice versa.

Did I mention turnovers and not falling behind early.

This team can be a problem for the Bucs but they have to play well and near error free.

We have played that way before so it isn't a big stretch to get there.

It's our house. The fans need to pump up the noise when the Bucs have the ball and not start any booing and crap. This team likely does have a fragile ego right now.

Get TO the ball but don't force it. Johnson must make quicker reads thru TO, Witten, Williams and Austin then Barber. He needs to be quicker and he will need time.

Garrett must call plays that are a strength for Johnson and not keep calling Romo plays. Johnson can hit the long outs if he has time and can step into the ball.

It's doable people. It's not balls but response, adaptation and playing smart.

Blocking and esp tackling need to be improved.

Strip the ball and make an INT or five.

Long list of basic good football. We are better than they are despite not playing like it the last few weeks.

Go Boys. I have faith in you guys.

We can not win with Brad Johnson at QB unless Marion Barber has a whale of a game and the defense plays lights out.

Dead on and the opposition knows that. They are making sure they take the run out of the equation first and foremost, especially the Rams game. The bottom line is that the O-line has to be able to outright over power and our defense has to create turnovers. We need to win the field position battle. Basic fundamental football but we lose any of those battles and Brad won't be able to overcome it.

I am the ultimate optimisit but I don't see how Brad can do it. Last weeks performance was unbearable. Brad is only interested in checking down and throwing 1 yard outs to Witten. Teams will compress the defense and attempt to take away the run. Brad locks on to one receiver and cannot go through a deep to short progression. A 15 yard square in with him is an adventure.

Next Sunday I will be his biggest fan and root on my team. I think we'll play better and show some heart. I just don't see how we can threaten a defense with Brad let alone against a stout defense? I hope I'm wrong.

I've got the answer. We can't and we won't.

I don't expect to win any games until Romo is our starting quarterback again. It's sad, but evident.

These are the '08 Bucs we're playing not the '78 Steelers, of course we have a chance of winning. I bet we see a few new winkles on Defense this week, remember the Buc's have a few injuries at WR, so I expect to see a close low scoring game around 17-14.

Serious question.

Don't say that there is no way, because that is just nonsense.

What does our offense need to do Sunday to beat the Buccaneers?

The first two are obvious.
1. Limit turnovers: The tenor of the game changed drastically during a terrible sequence when Gurode snapped the ball over Brad's head, a terrible punt by Paulescu, a tipped ball/INT and a Barber fumble left us down 21-7 in the first.

2. Limit mistakes: At 21-7 we still had a shot to get back in the game. Three and outs, penalties and sacks curtailed our ability to close the gap. Folk's missed fg was huge. At 24-10 we could have pulled it out but two plays later, Jackson took it to the house 56 yds, 31-7. Game effectively over.

Tactically we need a lot of Barber and Choice. Maybe Witten and Bennett can exploit the Tampa 2. Roy Williams should be more productive in his first full week with the team.

We need a conservative Parcells-type gameplan here. Long drives, shorten the game.

Keep it close and pull it out in the 4th quarter.

We can win this game.

If Defense plays pissed off and Line can block maybe... if not.. Hell no

We haven't been able to line-up man to man and run the ball consistently for a while now. So it is hard to see us winning the game.

1. No turnovers this is probably not going to happen

2. Defense needs to show up this is also a longshot

3. O line needs to learn how to run block as soon as they hit this rough stretch they forgot it seems and now look worse then last year

4. Stop the stupid penalties after listening to Wade's little penalties are not that important bit during his Monday PC i'm gonna go out on a limb and say this won't happen either
