How come no one is talking about the obvious intent to injure Romo?

How come no one is talking about the obvious intent to drive Romo in the ground shoulder first by the defender? It wasn't as obvious as the last time the Giants defender did it but same style a pile drive with the goal of using the ground and their body to inflict injury. I thought the NFL was for protecting QBs.

That was my thoughts exactly not sure why no one pointed that out during the broadcast.

IMO seemed like "normal" hard tackle on a QB if you come in free from any blocks. It was Tony landing on his left side that brought the injury. That Philly line gives this Oline fits and did last year as well. Cox and Logan are extremely talented players.

QBs are going to be driven into the turf if the defender has a chance to. It was a normal play. Romo unfortunately had his arm extended in a way that probably didn't help.

Agreed. The defender never cuddled him to the ground........"I'll never let your head hit the bed without my hand behind it".
Come on man, It's FOOTBALL!

I'm sorry, that's how defenders are taught to play.

You are taught to punish the offensive player when you tackle them.

In a league that is hell bent on protecting the "money " position , how come that don't extend to our " money " position? Is all I'm saying. They continue to let defenders t off on him weekly.

Last time Romo had this injury nothing was said. The commentators said nothing. It's like the rule disappears when it's applied to Dallas.

The QB plays from a Defenseless position, and that's why it's Illegal to drive the QB into the ground!!!!!!

COME ON MAN!

This is the NFL. If you touch the ball, you will get hit and there was nothing wrong with that hit. Romo and other quarterbacks get hit like that every game. Unfortunately, Romo was just at the wrong angle when he hit the ground. It was the weight of the tackler and the angle of Romo's shoulder that caused the break, not the hit.

The football purists say it was OK. It may have been a legal play but the intent was to hopefully injure Romo with his weight. It worked. Mission accomplished.

Of course it was. Do you think the defenders were going to try and brace themselves differently? Anyone would land on someone like that. It's not a dirty hit or play. It's football and I believe Shane Falco's line from the Replacements fits here well.

I grew up watching QBs get obliterated and that's just football.
I remember a major complaint of cowboys fans was how easy ware seemed to go on QBs. So we like to see the QB get smashed too, just not our QB

I tried making this argument five years ago. Eventually I decided discussion was driven by understanding of tackling mechanics.

Side note: This question extends well-beyond Romo and encompasses tackling mechanics at every level of football. For me, the question has come up on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays for nearly 35 years.

This thread may not end well.

Tony doesn't get hurt if he secures the ball and just goes down. Nothing dirty on that play.
