How Confident are you in Fredrick?

We also need someone who can play at the NFL level. Is that Fredrick? I guess we have to wait and see. Anyone who says he is a lock to beat out even Phil Costa is kidding themselves.

He will beat out Phil Costa at whatever position he ends up at this season. Period.

Care to wager on that?

Sure? Signature bet? PM me we can set it up.

For Frederick to be a great steal of a pick, it would require Jerry Jones to have a special insight so perceptive that only his brilliant player evaluation talent can see it.

I'm betting against that.

Sig bet it is.
I'm not trying to get in on your guys bet, but Roy is going to take this one fairly easily. I like Costa, but Frederick is a much better player than he.

Why anyone would want a guy like Beasley off the roster is beyond comprehension to me..

..also, Harris isn't your boy.

I don't want him off. But it's a numbers game.

I'll be taking suggestions for cyberbob's future sig. Any and all ideas welcome.

:D

What 5 or 6 receivers do you have making the team over him?

Well, maybe he does make it. I have Dez, Austin, Harris, Williams and maybe 'Beasly here. But you never know if someone could knock him off.

I am confident he is better than Cook, Costa and Kowalski. Beyond that remains to be seen. Likely to have trouble with quick twitch types particularly early. I dont see him getting launched into the backfield ala Clay Shiver.

So is quick twitch this year's "bus driver" or "progress stopper"?

OK, sorry. That was uncalled for. But you did force the name 'Clay Shiver' back into my consciousness, so some sort of retribution is warranted.

I actually agree in that we shouldn't have unrealistic expectations against the better DTs in the league. He's not going to be perfect right off the bat. We can only hope that as a late first rounder, he's ready to play.

I think its a lock they keep at least 5 receivers, if not 6.

To me, no one on the roster right now brings what Cole does to the table. He's a guy who is super quick and can get open faster than any of our other receivers and can make the play in traffic. He's the prototypical slot guy right now. We already made a mistake letting Amendola go awhile back.. don't want to make another mistake not realizing how valuable a receiver this guy can be, too.

Going into the season, are you really confident he makes us a better team?

I won't have any confidence in him until I see him play against starting caliber players during the regular season. Most had him rated as a 2nd to 3rd round talent so we'll just have to see.

I forgot Danny Coale. So Dez, Austin, Williams, Harris, Coale. In this case scenario, Beasley is still 6th at best.

You didn't forget Coale.. he's nothing so far. No rational reason at all to think he brings something unique to the team like Beasley does. Right now, i'd take Beasley over Coale every day of the week.

The whole "reach" arguement parroting is tired. This draft was middle heavy talent wise, there were 18-20 "blue chippers" total in the draft as experts graded them. The strength of the draft was talent that was regarded as 2nd-4th round grades and most of those grades were close enough that is why you saw things sort of go a little wacky in the mid rounds. Looking at his grade in a vacuum is irresponsible because if you were not going to draft a blue chipper at a position of need or want you were most likely going to end up with "reach" with the next group of prospects because their grades were so close.

Frederick is the best in Dallas since Mark Stepnoski and Ray Donaldson, ending the near two Decades of the Center being blown up into the back field on a regular basis.

your post makes me feel much better about us getting him in the first round

Full disclosure: I didn't know Freddy from Eve. But, time after time and time again, the "experts" were all confident that Freddy the Giant would still be there in the late 2nd or 3rd round. These were not fans here who knee-jerk without basis, but scouts, analysts and football guys (not you, Jerra) who rolled their eyes at the selection.

Still, they profiled Freddy as serviceable and a hard worker. And big.

Nothing would make me happier than to see him pancake defenders and to protect Romo as he hot-dogs it in the backfield like he's Johnny Football (trademark).

Here's my feeling: Jerra, in trying to be a "football guy" rolled the dice to make Freddy a Cowboy. He will give Freddy ever chance to be an instant star and, in effect, validate Jerra's football knowledge.

I do not buy his enthusiasm. A great pick in the 3rd. From what ah hear, that might be true. A great pick in the 1st? I am hearing and have heard a lot of reservations about that. But let the next season be the judge and let us hope that Jerra, at some point, removes hisself from the draft war room.

Some draft analysts have admitted that they moved him down a full round or more based only on his forty time.

Also, most draft analysts didn't have 6 OL in the top 11 picks plus Pugh and Long at #19 and #20.

One thing that can be stated as a fact, is that the Cowboys could have traded all of their draft picks in the 2009 draft to move up and "reach" for their favorite player Max Unger (2012 Pro Bowl, 2012 First-team All-Pro).
