How do we do this?

So now with the draft an FA signings wrapping up.

I want some info..

Based on Dak recovering.. How is Moore going to adjust the playcalling to account for needing to protecting him better.?

This has to be foremost about the play going forward. We cannot lose Dak again. Protecting him means everything.

But how?

Unfortunately, what happened to Dak can happen to any player when he is being tackled. That's football.

Look for fewer designed QB runs, but otherwise just line up and play.

The starters always protected Dak just fine. Maybe when Dak rolls out the way he did he should go down before someone like Ryan Logan gets on his back. Maybe that would be considered a smart business decision by Dak.

Easy.....draft Slater......oh, wait......never mind......

I don't think you change what you do on offense. Dak just has to be smarter about sliding or getting out of bounds when he does pull it and run.

There's going to be no change. Dak has healed and he's at no more risk of being injured now than he was before it happened.

There's no need to change Dak's playstyle because of a freak injury that could happen to any player at any position. He might be a little tentative to take off and run at first, but once his instincts take over and he takes some hits, he'll be completely over it.

That ankle of his is still very swollen....

I doubt we see him in preseason.

It is not up to the coaches to protect the QB, it is up to him to do it. The play caller has to call the best play to accomplish the objective.

It is also up to the OL to keep the rushers away from his lower legs and I would not be surprised to see more holding calls as they may have to resort to some take downs to slow the rush.

The play that ended Romo's career wasn't the play called but the moronic running with the ball in a meaningless preseason game. Prescott is going to need to be smarter than Romo, whom I did not consider to be a smart QB within the play, and throw the ball away when it's not there. If he waits too many times for the play to develop, we will see the backup QB.

Every pass rusher knows that he doesn't have to hit Prescott low, just drag him down and put weight on that ankle. And if we think there aren't a lot of guys that would love to take down a 40M QB, a 40M Dallas Cowboys QB, think again.

Little late for that. You fix those things in the offseason. OC doesn't handle OL schemes outside of figuring out what is needed for a given play to succeed. That's the OL Coach, the acquisition of talent and basic long term development of talent. You can go to a shorter passing game in order to try and get the ball out quicker but you have to have a QB, Receivers and backs who are able to execute that type of attack. You can run the ball more and throw it less but nobody believes in that anymore.

Bottom line on that one, to me, is that it has to happen before you get into the season. By the time you get to that point, you go with what you got and if your QB gets killed, then maybe you shouldn't have invested so much in a single position and player if you don't have the team to protect that investment.

Or just a better designed offense, I thought Moore would have incorporated more dump off options on designed passing plays.
Even if you fall short on a 3rd down you can punt and save your QB from the unnecessary hits in certain situations.
This is football, and its part of the game, but its the mitigation and damage control that has always been lacking,, just ask Romo about that.

and again Dak was injured by running and trying to stiff arm the tackler. Dallas did have a lot of shorter routs however if defense knows all you are going to do is dump off passes then it becomes easier to defend. I think there is any thing Moore could have done, it comes down to Dak taking what he can get and slide of get out of bounds

I hear you Red, but we didn't lose Dak due to lack of protection.
He got hurt running the ball.
............
Ooops, sorry. Sounds like I just repeated what everyone else is saying.

a lot of that will be on DAk, remember he got hurt outside the pocket, and it was a freak injury, I don't think Moore has to change anything.

I’m not sure you go out of your way to protect dak here. You’re protecting him by getting healthy and creating more depth on your oline.

as others have said Dak got hurt running, keeping more players in to block doesn’t lower the odds of hurting himself outside the pocket. I’m fact fewer options to throw to means he may end up running more.

the cowboys offense needs to pick up right where they left off. They scored a ton of points when dak was qb. I think there are areas they can improve, but adjusting the blocking philosophy seems like the wrong move.

NFL should take that way of tackling out of the game, going for the legs by a smaller player is always the reason for those ankle injuries. As you say it football , but with the emphasis on player safety , they can teach better tackling to every player and coach them .

there was nothing wrong with the tackle, it was not intentional nor was is dirty.

I never said dirty but intentional - holding pads and tripping the leg , a smaller DB can most likely bring down a bigger Runner like that only. But that buckling leg most of the time results in ankle injury like High ankle Sprain or like this one.

yes it is football, what you going to call penalties on every tackle? Dak was bigger and he could have slide but he fought for more and in the end was injured. It was no ones fault, it is the game of football and injuries will take place there is no way around it.

You don't change the scheme, you just tell dak to slide instead of fighting for extra yards
