I think it's too early in the season to play that game but it would still be something to excite the Cowboys fan base. This seems to be a common pick to be the Pats opener among most of the sources I see predicting the schedule.

I'd be down with that. It's a high profile matchup and honestly I would rather play the Pats early rather than later. They seems to get better as the season rolls along.

This. They use the regular season as an extended preseason to test things out for the playoffs.

    I wouldn't mind it.
Would hate waiting again to wait on a Sunday night game though.

But the up side, is it gets a potential December cold weather game out of the way. As we all know we will finish on the road, or last 2 on the road at a division rival or two game.

Early is better than later, but would prefer it week 2 or 3.

Contemplating going to this game since I live near Foxborough...not so sure I'd want it as the opener though.

I'd rather play the Patriots in week 1 right away before they "figure it out."

They have some major, major turnover on their team and I would like them as quickly as possible.

I don't like it, opening weekend is big anyway and that could be a marquis matchup later in the season.

However, for those that are looking for the easier path, better to catch them in September in Boston than December. However, something tells me that if it were the Cowboys, Belichick would not treat that like just any opening season game in primetime and neither would his players.

That's what I was thinking. Catch them before they get a chance to knock the rust off.

    Too early.

Not as much reward for a big Win if you get it at that point in the season.

Games like New Orleans last year, Seattle 2014, Green Bay and Pittsburgh in 2016 were towards the middle of the year.

That's where i'd like to see this game be so we could potentially get momentum from it.

meh, it doesn't matter to me..........teams that worry about their opponents probably aren't going to be very good anyway.........that is a weak mentality.

Well, since I don't believe in momentum, I don't think there's any reward for a big win except the point in the win column, and it does seem like that would be easiest to get in Foxboro early rather than later.

After NO last season, the Eagles took us to OT in Dallas (a few weeks after we beat them in regulation in Philly), and then we went out and got stomped by IND. I don't think we gained any momentum from the NO game.
In 2016, we beat GB and went straight into our bye week...and then the Eagles took us to OT in Dallas. And they weren't good that year.
After Seattle in 2014, we beat a bad Giants team, and then lost the next 2 games, at home. Of course, that's because Romo got hurt. Momentum's not a thing. Health is.

    I completely disagree.

I hope you don't care about how a team is playing in December if you don't believe in momentum.

Yeah, I'm in CT and was planning on that too, but season opener would be a Sunday night and cost big $$$$s.

    I don't.
Well, that's not quite right. First, I want my team to play well all the time. Secondly, I want my team to be healthy in December: usually, when a team fades down the stretch, injuries are a big part of the reason. As I said, momentum's not a thing, but health certainly is.

The obvious counterexample is the 2009 Saints, who started 13-0, dropped their last 3, and went on to win the SB. This has been studied, and there's no evidence of a momentum effect leading into the playoffs.

I actually think playing well late in the year is overrated as well but most people do not.

But I do think beating certain teams that everyone has labeled as the best team in football do bring momentum when you find a way to beat them. I've seen it too many times.

That New Orleans game catapulted us to the playoffs and brought a confidence to our defense that they just didn't quite have at that point.
