How Does Davis' Signing Improve our OL?

Am I missing something here? If we've added Davis but lost Colombo I don't see how we've improved. As important as it is to upgrade our RG position, the play at RT spot is even more important and no way in the world do I want the slow footed Davis to play RT. Now if Cowboys intend to still go after Colombo and bring him back to play RT, then I'm on board. If not, I'm very troubled. Even more troubled by so called reports that Cowboys have joined list for former Steeler Joey Porter however I'm hoping that nothing more then media hype. Is signing Adams a Jerry GM decision or does it have total support from the coaching staff?

Losing columbo means plugging in the kid McQ. I hope he is good enough.

There is a LOT of *****ing out there about the reported money that Davis is getting. Who cares??? The beauty of NFL contracts are they are not garunteed and with the cap continually rising teams like Washington etc do this all the time. What do you want Dallas to do? Say we're not spending any money and let Columbo and Davis walk and then start 2 rookies on the right side next year??? I hardly think future cap room would be your first thought when Kearse, Strahan etc are in our backfield on every snap. Fortunatly for Davis and unfortuantly for Dallas he's being paid market value. Dallas just did what needs to be done to remain competitive. Also for those of you upset that it appears Davis may get more than Steinbach, Dockery and Deilman I've got news for ya... Davis is better than Dockery and Deilman and is probably only rivaled by Steinbach. But a MOTIVATED Davis is better than anyone in this group. Let's hope he's movtivated and we'll have a MONSTER on that right side. If for some reason Columbo ends up back in Dallas expect Jones and Barber to be running through holes big enough to drive a bus through.

Now let's get Columbo back in the fold and sign Joey Porter!

Amen. The game is won in the trenches. Keeping gurode, adding davis, and hopefully keeping columbo is great. Getting porter would be icing on the cake.

We needed protection at RG, RT and LT with Flo's deal up next year.

Davis was the guy who could cover those bases for us.

I think Jerry had to sit back, he knew w/ avail cap money contracts would balloon.

But he had to sit back and not be proactive on guys like Steinbach in order to have the market get set and established, and thus keep some semblence of peace in the locker room....

If he had gone out and "set" the market, alot of home grown Pro Bowlers in the locker would have taken in as an affront...........

Anyone thinking that Davis is even close to as good as Steinbach needs their eyes checked. They would find that they arte the ONLY ONES AROUND - all scouts and coaches included- who thought so.

I guess your content with Greg Ellis and his 1.5 achilles tendons. You must have not watched the pass rush after he got hurt last year.

Pathetic!

Anyone added is an upgrade/improvement from what is currently there. Porter can play anywhere too. Too diverse to have one spot on the field.

The only way I can see davis being successful is if he is played at guard. He shown in the past that he can be successful at that posistion.

However, if he is put at tackle, I think he will fail. He can't go up against the speed it takes to block the DE. If you all have him play guard, I woould say it is a good pickup, otherwise, I think it would be a waiste.

Plug him in art RG and press on. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. The guy is a masher at the guard position and I believe Tony Sparano will get him going in the right direction.

how will he stop Kearse two times a year?
how will he stop Strahan two times a year?
HOW will he stop any of the speed LE's out there? I bet half of our opponents he will have trouble with....teams will use this weakness against us and blitz from that side...stunt from that side...so we paid over 50 mill for a guy who is not a lock to stop people?????????????????????????????????????????????

why not give Marco 10 mill up front if you are going to give Davis 15 or 20?

Folks, Dielman is better than Steinbach. Dielman is the better run blocker by far and he gives up less sacks than Steinbach. Steinbach has the bigger name because he was a 2nd round draft pick, has played well, and can possibly play RT. While Dielman was a FA DT who was converted to OG. But play in play out Dielman has been the better player.

With Colombo's situation being up in the air right now its anyone's guess where Davis will end up on the line.

Personally I know he is a giant, but he doesn't utilize his size as much as he should (leverage and push), and he doesn't really have good footwork which limits the team in many ways. I wouldnt have been a fan of him signing with the Commanders.

I am thinking he will get something ridiculous like a 60M contract, 20M guaranteed. That's more than the best RB's in the league get. I don't even think Peyton Manning has 20M guaranteed.

I think your opinion that Dielman is better is very much a minority oppinion in the NFL. Every site I have seen lists Steinbach as being better.

I HOPE Davis was strictly signed as a guard. He is NOT CAPABLE of being a really good tackle. he is just too big. Look at all the top tackles in the NFL and none of them are close to his size.
