How hot is Big Mac’s seat?

Now that most of the major roster moves are done for the upcoming season, what do you think McCarthy needs to produce to stay in Dallas?

These Head Coach Hot Seat articles come out every year, and I’m pretty sure big Mac will be on every single one

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-5-nfl-head-coaches-on-the-hot-seat-heading-into-the-2023-season

I see Chargers are on this list. Sort of ironic that Kellen Moore went to the Chargers, because I look at them as the AFC Cowboys. A lot of talent every year, but never put it together in the end. Moore could be gone as quick as Jason Garrett was with the Giants. There’s no Jerry Jones now who dictates which coordinators stay.

I honestly think Big Mac has to go to at least the NFC championship for Jerry to keep him around. Considering he’s never been in the Jerry family fraternity, Jerry’s age, recent team history in the Playoffs, and the perceived talent that McCarthy has inherited — fair or not —- I believe he has to produce big to stay.

I don't think he's on that big a hot seat not if he puts up another 10 to 12 win season gets in the playoffs

how he loses and who he loses to, it's kinda hard to fire a guy with three straight double digit win seasons and three straight playoff appearances when's the last time that's happened here?
I mean everyone's always looking at the grass is always greener trying to say we should move on from Prescott or cut this guy or now you want to assume that if we make the playoffs and have a double digit win season that somehow McCarthy's going to be fired ??

I mean it's possible anything's possible but I'm sorry I I just don't think that's going to happen it makes no sense to me it depends on how we end up losing. I mean what if like the 49ers Prescott gets hurt in the first quarter or we have a couple major injuries along the front and we end up losing the close game in the second round again, I mean there's just too many scenarios..

why do we have keep talking about this, we talked about the hot seat all off season before these roster moves were made and the schedule came out and now we're talking about it again before the games are played, I just don't know o_O

It's quite simple. The more losses, the hotter the seat. Dak isn't going anywhere, but an eight-loss season? Bye bye Mike.
IF the team were to come out slow with heavy early losses, I also think with Dan Quinn in waiting, it’s very possible that Jerry would pull the plug midseason and throw the dice on a Quinn turnaround.

I disagree. Eagles won their first Super Bowl and quickly fired their man. 12 win season but early Playoff exit might be dependent though on best alternative option available. Sean Payton is off the market so there’s one gone that I’m sure would tempt Jerry.

kind of a different situation though. there was clearly a power struggle going on and he put his chips on wentz.

Sure, that's exactly the same

nine and seven
nine and seven
four and 11

last three seasons for Doug, so you try to use that it's some kind of Comp? that's not the same at all.

we're just talking about possibly three straight double digit win seasons and playoff appearances.

I didn't realize just how bad his last 3 seasons were. Funny how they don't show very many Philly games in Dallas.

I get most of my Eagles info here on CowboysZone.

As far as McCarthy being on a hot seat goes, I don't think he's on any "Hot Seat", but he also isn't on a long leash.

McCarthy’s seat is pretty hot because anything less than what we did this past season might get him fired.

Ice cold. You may feel he needs some vindication, but you also know skerry very likely doesn’t feel the same. I would guess it’d take multiple disaster seasons (11+ losses) in a row before Jerry even considers it.

It’s just how you spin it. What’s better, 12-5 with an immediate playoff exit, or 9-7 with a wild card win? Philly also made 3 consecutive playoff appearances before his final losing season

I think a better comp for Mike McCarthy situation would be Marty schottenheimer in San Diego

he had two double digit win seasons, two playoff appearances in 3 years, in his last season he was 14-2 and lost in the first round

he got fired, that would be something closer, even though if Mike McCarthy will be winning three straight double-digit seasons most likely and getting into the playoffs, so if he gets back to the second round I just don't think he's being let go but that would be a closer comp to mikes situation here.
