How hot is Big Mac’s seat?

Seems to me like a coaches success really hinges a lot on the QB. Give a coach a good QB and you can truly see how good the coach is. You can really spot the crap coaches because they have very little success despite having a good QB.
I think it's a bit unfair though, I mean maybe Pederson could have also did the same thing... I mean he did win a Super Bowl but then you the very next year load the team up like all in especially on offense to help jalen hurts, i mean maybe Pederson not wanting to go to HUrts, yet could have also did the same thing. i mean he did win a Super Bowl 3 years before that read it but maybe it was the rumor about not go to jalen hurts and wanted Carson wentz

I don't know maybe that's what it was but they literally put a whole bunch of new weapons on that team the very next year that year that Pederson left and gave the new coach a whole bunch of new toys.

I didn't realize just how bad his last 3 seasons were. Funny how they don't show very many Philly games in Dallas.

I get most of my Eagles info here on CowboysZone.

As far as McCarthy being on a hot seat goes, I don't think he's on any "Hot Seat", but he also isn't on a long leash.
They weren’t that bad. He made the playoffs 3 of his last 4 seasons…had 2 division titles, and 1 SB win. Many, many coaches have had worse stretches

MM’s seat is hot this year because KM was the scapegoat. If he excels in SD and MM/Dallas struggle, that looks pretty bad

We had to put up with that poser fraud Garrett for 10 years - with many people defending him the entire time - but the next guy does better than him in only three years and he's supposed to be on the hot seat after two 12-5 years. Makes no sense.

What I'd also like to understand is why people think Dan Quinn is a better head coach than McCarthy. Not coordinator, head coach.

I honestly think Big Mac has to go to at least the NFC championship for Jerry to keep him around. Considering he’s never been in the Jerry family fraternity, Jerry’s age, recent team history in the Playoffs, and the perceived talent that McCarthy has inherited — fair or not —- I believe he has to produce big to stay.
I don't believe this at all. Jerry is only interested in competing, so all Mac needs to do is make the playoffs and that will be more than enough. A non losing record might even be good enough.

If they can somehow make it to the NFCCG, then thats nothing more than a bonus. It certainly won't be required.

The Hurts situation is a bit odd. I give the coach credit for introducing a very specific gameplan so Hurts and the Eagles could succeed. The new weapons topped it off. Once any of that system weakens, like the WRs, OL, or QB running, it's all downhill from there.

With play calling duties McCarthy has a lot more on his plate this season which makes his seat a little hotter.

...?...I don't think it's hot at all, unless of course Mac comes out with a sub 500 season...lol...He as already proven that He is a SB winning play caller. He got rid of the kid OC and brought in someone with experience...They are changing over from a Gap blocking to a Zone blocking on the Offense. The are committing to a new West Coast or Texas Coast Offense also. and have brought in speedy players...The defense under Quinn should be top notch...Dak excels in the "Play Action, and I think we will see a lot of it, along with screens and bootlegs...I expect Dak to have a near MVP season if He remains healthy...So I don't really see the "Hot Seat" under HC Mac!...:star:

I don't think he's on that big a hot seat not if he puts up another 10 to 12 win season gets in the playoffs
This^^^^^10/12 win and playoff win buy the final year on his contract. NFCCG or Super Bowl will buy him an extension IMO

Ice cold. You may feel he needs some vindication, but you also know skerry very likely doesn’t feel the same. I would guess it’d take multiple disaster seasons (11+ losses) in a row before Jerry even considers it.
Agree somewhat .........not sure it was take that many losses but certainly a losing season with no playoff may force Jerry's hand. ( MM out and Quinn in )

Sizzling hot.

Quinn stayed for a reason. He's up next. And he should be. DQ is twice the coach MM is.
Based on what pass? really asking are we going off what he has done on this defense with MM as HC or DQ's actual HC resume?

My opinion on this was different last year. Now I don't think his seat is as hot. Making the playoffs 3 straight years would be better than any Cowboys coach in over 25 years so I think that would carry weight.

I yawn at all of this coach talk. Fire him, keep him, who cares? I dont.

Now if you can bring in Andy Reid.... and he can bring Mahomes with him, then Ill get excited, but the coach doesnt matter to me. These NFL coaches, for the most part are all good. They have learned from other "Good," coaches, they all have a decade or more of experience... they all know what they are doing.... so who cares.

Despite his impulsive reputation, Jerry is endlessly patient with his coaches. Garrett is the red-headed poster child, but Parcells left on his own terms, and Wade didn't get fired until the Cowboys fully quit on him on Sunday Night Football vs Green Bay.

I think it will take a similar Wade type meltdown for McCarthy to get fired this year. Making the playoffs will guarantee his return. Missing the playoffs doesn't seem likely with this defense and with 3 NFC wild card spots - we made it last year with 5 missed games from Dak. But I don't think missing the postseason dooms him either. It's going to have to turn into a tire fire for McCarthy to get removed.

Perhaps not…but if it’s not, Cowboy fans should be upset about it.
I'm ok with giving him at least his 5 years. 1st season was a wash with the injuries and the last 2 seasons have been pretty good seasons. Granted the schedule wasn't very tough but still.

Mike is coming off back to back 12 win, playoff seasons. Garrett was here 10 years.

Big Mac ain't going nowhere anytime soon. Seems to be fitting in fine with the billionaire hillbillies and influencing positive change on the organization too. I'm about it.

Now that most of the major roster moves are done for the upcoming season, what do you think McCarthy needs to produce to stay in Dallas?

These Head Coach Hot Seat articles come out every year, and I’m pretty sure big Mac will be on every single one

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-5-nfl-head-coaches-on-the-hot-seat-heading-into-the-2023-season

I see Chargers are on this list. Sort of ironic that Kellen Moore went to the Chargers, because I look at them as the AFC Cowboys. A lot of talent every year, but never put it together in the end. Moore could be gone as quick as Jason Garrett was with the Giants. There’s no Jerry Jones now who dictates which coordinators stay.

I've never looked at Big Mac's seat.
