Back in the early 90's, in our NCAA Final Four office pool, a buddy of mine (who is not a sports guy) picked Duke to win. Nobody was picking Duke, .. but lo and behold they won.

My buddy won the pool and the money. I asked him why he picked Duke to win, when nobody else was picking Duke.

He looked at me and sheepishly said, "I have always liked John Wayne."
