How is Travis Frederick not getting constant praise?

Hearing mainstream media outlets constantly namecheck Tyron Smith and Zach Martin as great o-linemen really boggles my mind. Travis Frederick is arguably the best of the 3 and undoubtedly a top 3 player at his position. Sure Smith is a huge name from his time, and Martin was just a rookie, but Frederick's only 23 and has played just two seasons!! There is a reason why ESPN classified both Martin and Smith as just "Good" and classified Frederick as "Elite," and it is because elite he is.

Come on Cowboys fam, show Frederick some love.

I was reading a story earlier on BTB that wondered if the team might attempt to draft positions this year that they weren't able to last year.

Travis Frederick was mentioned quite a bit in the piece with his 2013 draft grade taking center stage.

On Mike Mayock’s list of the top 100 prospects in the draft, Frederick checked in at No. 92 — 50 spots lower than the next-lowest player selected in the first round. On the ESPN.com draft board, Frederick was listed as a third-round pick.

But that’s just members of the media. What did NFL teams think? Ed Werder of ESPN surveyed five NFL teams and asked for their grades on Frederick. One team rated him a fourth-round pick, two had him as a fifth-round pick, one had him as a sixth-round pick and one had him as a borderline sixth- or seventh-round pick.

Jones, however, said after the first round that center is an important position in the Cowboys’ offense, and that Frederick was the No. 22 player on their draft board. So Jones believes that after trading down to pick No. 31, the Cowboys got good value.

Even if few others agree.

It looks like Jerry and his scouts were waaaaay ahead of the rest of the NFL on Fred. I thought he was a top 50 player when he came out and could not believe how far he dropped after the combine. Used to be a huge combine and measurables guy, glad I outgrew that.

A) He's a center.
B) He's getting praise.

Tyron had some pretty good measureables and that worked out okay. Not sure it has to be one way or the other.

As far as the OP, we have a good offensive line unit. Asking for individual praise for any of these guys is completely missing the point. Plus, in general, centers don't get much ink anyway unless they screw up.

Smith's measurables supported and enhanced his on field production. Not a fan of production being down graded specifically on the basis how they look and run around in their underwear.

Stepnoski never got recognition

I think it is where he has trimmed his beard. If we would let it grow to crazy man status I think he would be more respected around the league.

I think everyone and their granny recognizes Frederick's value and worth to this team. Let's face it, though, it's tough to have constant praise coming your way when you're playing next to someone like Zack Martin, who's likely to garner as much praise as any newby lineman possibly could. Let's just say were fortunate to have exactly what we've got in this o-line and not get upset over any perceived lack of attention to any of them. It's all good.

Fred has all the respect but a rookie just made all pro and that my man is bigger news

Don't think you downgrade production but it's information. I don't think you ignore information. Guys drop and raise based partly on combine stuff all the time, and sometimes it's valid while other times it's not.

I'm not a big numbers guy either, but you can use them if you apply context to arrive at a reasonable hypothesis.

It's just that most of the number events at the combine are aimed towards skill guys, so they don't mean a heck of a lot for trench players.

Smith played RT in college, so the numbers certainly helped project him to LT in the pros.
