Following up on a recent reply on another thread, usually the consensus of NFL Teams assigned 15-18 1st rd grades. Many of the trusted media scouts claim this upcoming draft lacks blue chip prospects, some even believe there is even just 1 in Travis Hunter. Let's try to project how many for this year:

QB (2) Sanders, Ward
RB (1) Jeanty
WR (2) T-Mac, Burden (Hunter for this exercise will be a CB)
TE (0)
OL (2) Banks, Campbell
Edge (2) Carter, Williams
DT (2) Graham, Harmon
LB (1) Walker
CB (2) Hunter, Johnson
S (1) Starks

15 Total seems about right. Of coarse, some on this list will vary from team to team.

14/15 was my estimate so think you’re on it.

Would love for us to pick at 12/13 instead of 15.

Hunter looks small on the field to me. Every game. And...I dont even care about what his measurements say. Small legs, small buttocks.

But the kid produces.

Yes, top 12 would guarantee a 1st rd graded player, but after that could be dicey. I think with Lamb going down, improves our chances of getting to that spot. That is Burden/Harmon territory.

You left off lots of players. The Ohio State receiver for one is considered better than Burden by some of the media scouts. Grant and Nolan will also have first round grades along the defensive line. Peirce and the Marshall kid will also get first round grades as pass rushers.

There are usually about 18-24 first round grades.

I think most scouts would add Revel to your list, and probably 3-4 others.
Maybe OT Simmons' injury moves him down, but he would have a 1st round grade, for example
That's still on the low end of the norm though

This years draft is weak as regards real blue chip players. None of the QBs are all that. Jeanty and Hunter and a few others are about it.
So as regards real first rd players, honestly not that many.

2 of my favorite round 1 targets. Fingers crossed.

I disagree, see them as high 2nd round prospects. In this draft that means top 25.

This board is over-run with unreasonable negativity. Dak and Jerry get unfairly criticized constantly because they are rich.

But..I will say that it is pretty frustrating that the Cowboys(players and FO) are letting the projected draft slot get worse and worse. It gives the unreasonable critics fuel "Jerry and the Cowboys cant even lose correctly"

I get that the Pro Sports Leagues frown on clubs tanking for fans' sake...and I also get that Jerry and the Coaches cant prevent the players from trying hard on the field if they want to...

But, man its a shame that everyone has known this is a lost season for 10 weeks now...and we cant even crack the Top 10 for a draft pick?

Hopefully we see nothing but losses the rest of the way and crack the Top 10 slot.
The Cowboys will probably pick between 12-15 and probably have a top 14 NFL roster. The Cowboys will be ok when it comes to having a high draft choice. The roster was to good for the Cowboys to be 4-13.

Grant is closer then Graham then you think and the Ohio State receiver will probably be the 2nd receiver taken on draft day. Pierce is probably the best pass rusher next to Carter. I didn’t even bring up Walker who is basically Jordan Davis in a weak draft.

I get it. At least youre not unreasonable by calling this teams roster, if healthy, decently talented. Personally, I think its a playoff caliber roster. Posters around here will claim we were bottom quarter of NFL talent wise.

My point is, Cowboys havent been in a situation like this for the past 15 years due to Romo then Dak and Will McClay. The one time there is a perfect storm to tank...the Cowboys are sitting at like pick 15 with only a few games left. SMH.

The last time Dallas decided to give up the season early was when Zeke fumbled the ball on purpose 4 times in one game to start the tank. I cant even remember the time before that. Basically, the Zeke fumble game is the only season I really remember in the past 15 years where Dallas decided to tank early in the season.

I guess for as much negativity as this board produces about Jerry making buffoon moves...I would have hoped that the rare chance a tank is in order, that we would execute the tank with little room for criticism. But no, we somehow mess up a tank.

I suspect its the players. And, I guess there really isnt much you can do if they want to fight for wins...I respect it. I also suspect there might be a balancing act going on with managing star players that want to win instead of tank(Micah, CeeDee)...upsetting star players probably isnt something a club wants to add to its plate. But, at the end of the day a tank is the best option for this team, the players should realize that and all be onboard.

I don’t understand your hate on Burden, he is a yac monster like Lamb. Pierce does play the run in college, he is going to in the pros? Walker isn’t a high level run defender, he is more of a pass rusher

I hear you. Very reminiscent of the Eagles in 2020 when they tanked the last game against the Commanders. They were able to use the 6th pick in the draft to get multiple picks including a first round pick in the next draft. It’s just the bottom feeders in the NFL just are bad. I think McCarthy should lose his job because the Cowboys didn’t make the playoffs with this team even without Dak.

What a “1st round grade” is can always be subjective. Some teams may have 10 and others could have 20+.

I would say Tyler Warren is definitely a 1st round TE

James Pearce and Nic Scourton will also definitely be considered 1st round grades by some depending on scheme fit.

There are for sure more than 2 OLineman that can be year 1 impact players, even if they aren’t LT’s. I like Wyatt Milum a lot, Ersery is getting momentum, and Cam Williams and Josh Williams are potential stud OG’s

I think this class is getting a little underrated. Definitely not an ideal year to have a top 10 pick, but there is a ton of depth there.

Yes, every team will vary based on how each fits their team. Generally speaking most teams assign 15-18 first rd grades in a given year.
