How Many MNC's Has OU Won While Not On Probation...

...and without being put on probation within 5 years?

I count two non tainted titles for the sooners, (although they were put on probation 5 years after their MNC in 2001, but we will count that one as non tainted)

-1956 probation was for violations that occurred during the 1955 season when OU claimed the MNC. (1 tainted)

-OU also claims the MNC they won while on probation in 1956, even though they were not allowed to go to a bowl game in 1956. (2 tainted)

-Sweeping changes were passed by the poll entities in 1976 as a result of the rampant cheating by the Sooners in the 70s. Remember, the NCAA doesn't recognize a championship in D1 Football. (The Sooner cheating, as well as rampant cheating in the SWC is ultimately what put DKR into retirement.) (3 tainted)

-OU claims the MNC in 1974 because the AP voted them #1. The UPI had decided to stop ranking probation teams when OU went on probation in 1973. USC was the UPI-recognized MNC holder in 1974 (USC rightly claims this as one of their 11 titles.) The 1974 OU team was not allowed to go to a bowl game either. (4 tainted)

-OU's probation expired in the middle of the 1975 season, as such, they were allowed to go to a bowl game. They claim another MNC that year as well. (5 tainted)

Texas just passed Notre Dame for #2 all time in victories in NCAA D1 history.

they also own the all time series against the Sooners with 58 wins compared to 40 by the Sooners, and have won 3 out of the last 4.

And OU has more national titles, more wins since the beginning of the AP poll, more 10 win seasons, more weeks ranked 1, 5, and pretty much lead every other category in college football.

Since OU hired Bud Wilkinson, the Tex/OU rivalry is pretty much tied.

It's all about national titles anyway, isn't it? OU's got the Horns by quite a bit there.

If this season doesnt tell us that we need some sort of a playoff in major college football, then I dont know what will. For those that say "we do have a playoff now...the entire regular season is a playoff"...I dont think Bama, Texas, USC, and Penn State appreciate being in the single elimination bracket...while OU and Florida get to be in the double elimination one.
