How many teams have been rebuilt while we maintain mediocrity?

All I am saying is that there are plenty of examples where teams fired their head coach after 3 unsuccessful seasons, regardless of injuries, and the new coach comes in and turns the program around fairly quickly.

Continuity is not always what is best.

I agree its not always best. It's best more often than not and the right thing to do with the team now.

In the history of the NFL you will see teams that go thru coaches trying to find the magic bean. And you will see teams that are less likely to discard coaches when it clearly wasn't their fault the team failed. Just because some use poor judgment and logic isn't a reason for others to do so. If you reason and solve with emotional reasoning you're likely to not succeed over the long run. Stay the course and see what happens with a reasonably healthy team then you can make better judgments.

When injuries pop up again next year, and they will, should they keep Garrett around if the team has a 8-8 record? How many more years of Romo, Witten, Ware, etc careers should they waste to give Garrett a chance to prove himself? There is nothing emotional about wanting a coach that is out of the training mode. Garrett has had the time to put the team in a positive direction. As it stands, the core that has carried this team for years is at the end if their careers, no cap room, the worst defense in team history, the three year process has failed and we get another year to stack on top of other years of failure.

You and others keep saying 'injuries'. I haven't been talking about the normal amount of injuries to a club but an inordinate amount and in this case mostly to one unit which is unusual. It doesn't necessarily have to be an inordinate amount of injuries but can simply be to critical personnel. In this case it's both.

I'm not going to argue about Garrett or core players. The issue is too many injuries to judge anyone's performance. I don't care who runs, owns, manages, coaches, or plays for the Cowboys. If they are part of the organization I will be a fan although I reserve the right to praise or criticize whom I wish. If we have a coming year we can properly evaluate from a dispassionate objective viewpoint and they fail to perform then I think Jerry will have some tough decision to make about the staff and players.

Assuming good health, I expect the offense to do pretty well next year. The questionable unit is the defense. Just as the OL was rebuilt (and pretty well I might add), the defense will need to be rebuilt.

I have no faith that Jason can coach this team to any lasting success.

Injuries or not.
