How Much Did We Improve on Defense?

If we have Christian Parker last year, we win at least two more games.
Just based in-game adjustments, possibly. That's what irritated me the most about Uberfluke. Something would be working but since it wasn't his MO he'd stop. It's almost like someone else suggested something, he'd tell them he'd try it out for a few plays. So he would then regardless of whether it was working he'd stop.

They were both here last year and they downgraded significantly from Osa

They have no proven edge rushers
They have one proven Edge rusher
which is what they started out with last season
OSA was clearly over rated by YOU
the DT position is CERTAINLY a team strength now

When you are staring at a plate of dog Pooh that you have to eat and someone swaps out the Pooh for cat food, all of a sudden the cat food looks pretty good.

Gary is a worse pass rusher than Clowney.

Osa is better than the scrubs they brought in.

I’m using a bit of hyperbole. But there are a lot of folks in the cowboys media world who are selling Christian Parker as the answer to the cowboys worried, and selling him hard. Without even waiting for one game to be played.

The hype around a first time DC has been crazy.
Because he's just different. People saying it recognize something in him.

Is he guaranteed? I don't think so. The players have to execute. But from what it looks like l, this year is entirely different.

The guy was a stubborn old fool. Complete bonehead. And it was obvious to me after game 2 and I never relented.

Putrid.

I'm only passively interested because of CP and some defensive moves. I hope they're OK as far as OL depth. I really think Tyler Smith should go to LT.

Compared to last year, how much did we improve?

If we have Christian Parker last year, we win at least two more games. Just on coaching alone.

We also got Gary, Lawrence, Ezeiruaku more experienced, Quinnen, Kenny Clark, Caleb Downs? Who even does that? We also got Overton, Barham, Jalen Thompson, Dee Winters, Overshown is coming back, we picked up Cobie Durant. And we have guys like Bell and Reddy.

Pinch me. I was ready to give up last year. This is looking like a new team.

And that's a good thing.

Maybe it's not yet complete, but that is indeed one heck of a rebuild.

Anyone sense one more trade coming before the season starts?

I do.

I give the off-season rebuild a solid A.
I think Parker is the biggest variable if you expect an improvement. He gives me the most hope but is also still an unkown.

The players we accumulated are no such an big upgrade to me. Sure 2 have potential coming out of college (Downs and Lawrence) but they are unknown commodities right now.

Those 4th round picks and added FAs (besides Gary) are to me no worth to be mentioned upgrades. Why? Look at our draft history with picks in the 4th or lower rounds and our FA signings. How many of those were upgrades in the end? 1 of 7 ? Well then thats how we should also view this class and plan with that outcome.

Gary is not an gamechanger like Parsons. He is a well needed addition after DFlaw left. He is good in run suppport but a very medicore pass rusher. He is a poor mans DFlaw.

CLark and Williams were here half of the last season. I love those additions but it wasnt like our defnese changed from being bad to suddenlly good with them. But it was a much needed step in the right direction. Also i dont understand fully why people name them as new additions this offseason.

We lost osa and fowler this offseason. Nobody seems to wanna see that. Osa and fowler are both medicore players i get that. Still they were established NFL commodities. We did not much to replace them.

We lost Lewis im the slot last offseason. That to me was our biggest lostand until today wedid nothing to find his replacement. The CB group is the worst of groups on our team. We have Bland and then nobody else. Revel is not NFL ready. After that we have a 4th rounder and one medicore FA. Compares to last year we have more hope but right now are worse.

Abput the hopes that those 2nd year / comback players will me much improved:

- #41 has no clue about the game. He is only good in coverage or when you hand him a dedicated job. He never knows where the ball is so you cant let him just play.
- Revel right now is not NFL material and this has nothing to do with his injury imo.
- Overshown may come back from injury or may not.

I do hope that all will be way improved. But i have to come back with the same argument i gave about our 4th round picks. Of course 100% of the players may take the next step. But how often did that happen in the past. I think if one shows big improvements thats already great. And thats how we should plan on going forward.

I Could go on about others but thats enough to me for now. I do think we improved a bit. But not much. Potential is there but right now thats pure speclation. Lawrence may be the biggest difference if he gets it. He is the sole real pass rusher with real potential we added. But then usually edge players that are not generational type of players like Micah need at least one season to be a force on the field.

I do think our defense will be a defense between 20 and 15. Ok and improved but nothing forcing or really good. We need at least one more draft and FA to have a good ome.

It got to the point that I wanted to go to a game just to attack him. Haha! I know I'd go to jail but it might have been worth it. Imagine the respect I would've gotten in there! I'm joking, of course, but it was pretty bad. No surprise Schotty had him moved off the sidelines — he was probably having similar thoughts as mine. The only surprise was that it took that long. Fluke going to SF makes want to me root against them just that much more. He doesn't deserve to have an NFL job after last season imo. I know I'm basically inviting someone to come in and defend him on some level saying, "Hey, his defenses in Indy were pretty good!" but that really doesn't mean all that much to me. Look at me getting all worked up! Hahaha!

As for Smith moving to LT — I think Guyton should be giving one more shot at it but if it's clear it won't work or he can't stay healthy, Sorry, Mr. Smith, I know you don't want to do it, but it's happening.

I’ll never forget Jerry’s pathetic attempt to defend Eberflus, and his “foxhole” comment. Lost that ‘war’ pretty badly there Jerrah!

Fluke going to SF makes want to me root against them just that much more.
Between him and Raheem Morris, they’re the complete opposite of former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. I expect the 49ers defense to take a huge step back. Neither of those hires makes a bit of sense.

I’ve been dealing with comments like that for months now. Yeah. Eberflus had a good defense. Six years ago. Since then he’s been a total joke. As a head coach and getting fired after one years as a coordinator, settings records for ineptitude.

Monte Kiffin was good at one time too. So was Mike Nolan. Or Mike Zimmer. Eventually, the game passes everyone by.

As for Smith moving to LT — I think Guyton should be giving one more shot at it but if it's clear it won't work or he can't stay healthy, Sorry, Mr. Smith, I know you don't want to do it, but it's happening.
I proposed a trade for Jackson Powers Johnson who’s fallen out of favor with Las Vegas. He can play guard or center which would allow the team to move Tyler Smith to left tackle full time if Guyton doesn’t work out.

We'll be better this year. We won't be a good defense, but we won't be 31st again either.

Replacing Wilson, Diggs, and Murray with Downs, Durant, and Winters is instant addition by subtraction.
Hard to say. I'd guess around 20th. Upside is there, though, if the rooks can play right away.

The edge rushers thing is possibly true. We do have several promising young guys, however.

Q is a huge upgrade from Osa. Clark is also, albeit a bit old. How do you see it as a downgrade?

No, Gary is about the same as a pass rusher as Clowney. We basically got a younger version.

Clowney has never been more than just a decent player. It's so strange how people on here are grossly overrating a journeyman type.
