How Much Did We Improve on Defense?

Anyone watching Ebergoof's scheme last year knows it wasn't just his players. The same failed scheme, coverages, lack of blitz, time after time after time. Over and over.

The defense was bad. They weren't that bad.
And anyone watching the players know it wasn't just Eber!! Goes both ways!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Osa is 10 times the pass rusher. They aren't upgrades from a talent perspective over him and really aren't close to as good as him. As I mentioned, they are just better fits for this defense. That and being cheaper makes them better for us.
And minus 10 times the run stopper. Run stopping is now upgraded massively, pass rushing has been also. Because Q plays Osa's position.

DT position is not just about rushing the passer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try telling that to @kskboys

I appear to be the only poster who blames both the talent and the DC. Only difference is that due to not having NFL talent for way too many positions, I put more on the lack of talent.

One year Belichick had the 28th ranked D. Lost in the super bowl as Nick Foles threw all over them like they were a high school D. Why? Lack of talent.

Quinn has been lauded by many on here as being great. His D was worse than ours last season. We were 30, they were 32. Why? Lack of talent.

I have never said Eber was good. All I have said from the start is that he never had a chance w/ the blatant lack of talent. No scheme would've worked. He was forced to play zone just to try to minimize the damage. There is nothing he could've done.

You guys go way too far in reading into a post what you want to read. And way too polarized in blaming Eber for everything, when it was obvious we did not have the talent on D.

Here’s where you’re wrong again.

It wasn’t “Quinn’s D”. He was the head coach, not the defensive coordinator.

Which is simply not true.

He added much of that no talent.

And his lame schemes undermined the talent he did have.

Look in the mirror. You try in vain to make excuses for the guy by placing the blame on the players.

Yes they were. Before Q came in, we had maybe 2 starting quality players on D. We let the 2 best players on the 28th ranked D walk. Seriously, how did you miss that?

Man, stop the strawman stuff. I am not making excuses for Eber and never have. There is zero reason to polarize. Horrific talent plus mediocre DC = terrible D. It's just so simple.

You're not addressing anything I say. And that's OK, just expected more from you.

You constantly have. Why deny it now. I can point to post after post after post where you redirect blame from Eberflus at ‘lack of talent’.

I’m directly addressing everything you say.

Like when you incorrectly blame Quinn for a defense he wasn’t coordinating.

And anyone watching the players know it wasn't just Eber!! Goes both ways!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if you noticed how he would continuously beat himself with risky calls and leaving spaces open, trying to be smart. As in, he would scheme players to the wrong gap, or coverage...that makes the players look worse than they are.

A defense is like a government: only as good as the people running it.

Absolutely. 80% of our D problems was lack of talent. Don't see how anyone can call a D full of non-NFL starters even viable.

Once again running to his defense!

You must be related.
Oh, come on, stop w/ the Rocky style answers. That's just so weak.

I don't even like Eber, barely know who he is, and I've stated that several times.

Bottom line: I'm not defending Eber. I'm saying the lack of talent was 80% of the problem.

I guess I should continue w/ the grade school stuff and say you must be related to Kenneth Murray, right?

Or, the players didn't/wouldn't cover their gaps because they sucked!!!!

And you think the play calling was viable? It was a disgrace. I’ve said it before, they wouldn’t have been a lot better but a little better it could have been. He failed miserably just like the rest of the D.

Then why are you pointing to his work six years ago?

Bottom line: I'm not defending Eber. I'm saying the lack of talent was 80% of the problem.
And I’m saying that’s patently false.

I guess I should continue w/ the grade school stuff and say you must be related to Kenneth Murray, right?
Show where I’ve ever defended Murray and you’ll have equivalence.

Coaching was obviously part of the problem but lack of talent was biggest problem .

No pass rush due to losing our best edge rushers , secondary and LB’s decimated with injuries and until we acquired Q absolutely no run defense .

Better schemes might have helped some but NFL is a talent driven league. Better coaching can optimize talent but usually not as much without talent .

That said Eberfluk had to go but a major influx of talent was most needed along with a new scheme .
