How Much Did We Improve on Defense?

Coaching was obviously part of the problem but lack of talent was biggest problem .

No pass rush due to losing our best edge rushers , secondary and LB’s decimated with injuries and until we acquired Q absolutely no run defense .

Better schemes might have helped some but NFL is a talent driven league. Better coaching can optimize talent but usually not as much without talent .

That said Eberfluk had to go but a major influx of talent was most needed along with a new scheme .
Well said.

I mean, how much info does one need? We got rid of almost everyone on D. Think.

Then why are you pointing to his work six years ago?

And I’m saying that’s patently false.

Show where I’ve ever defended Murray and you’ll have equivalence.
You are defending the players. That is defending Murray. According to you, even though Murray has sucked everywhere he's been, Eber made him suck. Guess he was calling in plays to the Bolts after they drafted him.

I got to say, this is about the weirdest convo I've had on here.

It's impossible to execute an effective game plan with Murray playing MLB. Impossible. Eberflus certainly had his issues, but no NFL or college level coach worth 2 cents coaches any player to do some of the stuff we saw from Murray last season.

You mentioned a Strawman argument earlier. Your comment is the perfect example.

I never defended Murray.

And I definitely noticed that you can’t provide any examples.

You don’t get to attribute false narratives to me. Nothing is ‘according to me’.

But what I will do is to blame Eberflus for bringing a guy like Murray to Dallas. But somehow, you don’t.

Likewise. It’s like talking to a wall and.

Now name a coach who wouldn’t have benched Murray after the first four games. And don’t say we didn’t have anyone better. His backups could have done just as bad as him but not much worse.

And minus 10 times the run stopper. Run stopping is now upgraded massively, pass rushing has been also. Because Q plays Osa's position.

DT position is not just about rushing the passer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Osa is a poor run stopper and a really good inside pass rusher. Those other two are average at best run stoppers and poor pass rushers. Their pass rushing is even worse than Osa's run stopping. We will get zero from them in the pass rush. But, like I said, they are much better fits for THIS defense and that is all that matters and being waaaaayyyyyy cheaper is just a massive bonus.

As far as the pass rush being upgraded, that is clearly TBD. As we sit here today I don't think we can say that unless you want to assume players will do things they have not yet done which I do not assume.

There it is. You're underrating their run stopping skills.

I have no idea why you keep saying this. There is absolutely nothing to substantiate it.

Osa PFF run grade: 58.9
Ogbonnia PFF run grade: 57.2

PFF is imperfect but Ogbonnia is a nothing player.

Pass rush matters more, whether we want to admit it or not.

Every coach he's ever had in the NFL. He's never been benched. 2025 was the most significant and abrupt decrease in snap percentage he's ever had.
And it was too late when his snaps went down and not enough. It should have taken no more than 5 games to figure it out.

I don't get why you're so obsessed with this.

Just replace him with another terrible player. Who cares lol

You can't take them as a duo. Bullard is a little bit above average run stopper. Ogbonnia is a slightly below average run stopper. That's why I said average. Like I said I like both and both fit our defense, but you are overrating them as a duo. Bullard is going to surprise some people IMO with how well he plays on early downs and will win the starting DE job with Clark at NT IMO as I have said all along (TBD of course). While I liked the Ogbonnia signing he is just a rotation guy. There is nothing wrong with that and we needed that, but that's what he is. He turns 26 before the season so maybe he still has some development in him.

I don't disagree with any of this other than the fact that we are assuming a lot about what the system will be without much basis.

If it is anything like Philly, they are just going to be in a pretty standard nickel. Anything else is just a guess. There really aren't many scenarios where 3 DTs (i.e. Bullard-Clark-Q) are all on the field. You can't do that because you are just way too exposed against the pass.

It seems you’re obsessed as well. Lol

I do believe he should have put in some of the younger guys to see what they had with more playing time. We all saw the poop show Murray was. But he didn’t?

What younger guys? Clark sucked and got cut. Liufau was bad. James was bad and played a lot anyway. Justin Barron played safety in college.

It doesn't matter if Eberflus knew he was bad or not if there's no viable option to replace him.

Man, the lengths people go to just so they can push their agenda about Eber. It's just so strange that so many fell for it.

There were no younger guys. Thanks Jerry.
