As usual looking for ppl who know stuff technically to educate me…

How much of our run D, or run defense in general is about the inside linebackers and their play (not filling gaps strongly, etc for whatever reason)

Or is it our d-line just that bad, or a combo?

Thx

Shouldn't LBs clean up mess, or being leading in tackles like a safety to let you know "we gettin' gashed"?

A lot of the issues is our DL is hell bent on getting to the QB. This exposes Clark and LVE who have to shed blockers to make stops.

Teams also know they can run outside on us.

It’s not bad when we play downhill. But when we behind that’s the issue like last week

Get three better, faster linebackers and the run defense will improve greatly. They have a hard time shedding blocks and lack the speed to play sideline to sideline.
We drafted Mazi to fix the run defense.

He runs a 4.9 on a good day.

As far as Sunday's game? The problem was second level runs. LVE, Damone Clark, Jayron Kearse, and Markquese Bell were players singled out on things I have watched as taking terrible angles or just completely missing their gap assignments or run fits.

Also some issues with outside contain. All of these things got fixed to some degree in the second half; but the problem was by then the Cowboys were already down multiple scores.

What's killing this defense are 2 players the Cowboys should of never drafted and kept. Drafted? Taco Mazi 2.0. Shouldn't of kept? LVE. You want a dominate defense? Get a dominate defensive tackle and a dominate MLB. You name me any domiate defense that didn't have these. back in the 90's we had Lett and Norton. And they aren't nearly the best combo. Our defense has nothing close to this.

We just don't have any thumpers on Def.....Our LB's tackle/hit like barbies, They diagnose a run play as slow as a sloth and our Safeties take horrible angles.

Moves like bringing back LVE over signing Wagner is why this team stalls in the playoffs

It’s not the LBs. When the DL takes themselves out of play and allow offensive linemen to get to the second level quickly, LBs are not going to make plays. It’s the reason Jalen Smith and LVE went from effective to playing on skates and making tackles 5+ yards downfield. It’s why LVE was better last season when the DL focused on gap control and run fits, and it’s why they were no factors on Sunday. The Cardinals OL was at the second level almost immediately in many situations.

“How much” is meaningless

The solution is to play Parsons at LB and play a real DE at weak DE. Now you can stop the run and rush the passer and Parsons can roam free

Bingo. It’s the DTs job to keep the OL off the linebackers. I remember Ray Lewis having an off year after Siragusa retired. That was his protection to run up and down the line and make plays. He forced them to draft Haloti Ngata in 2006.

All the big runs last week were to the outside.

We have struggled with outside containment for few years now.
