How much of our run D is our ILBs?

It’s not the LBs. When the DL takes themselves out of play and allow offensive linemen to get to the second level quickly, LBs are not going to make plays. It’s the reason Jalen Smith and LVE went from effective to playing on skates and making tackles 5+ yards downfield. It’s why LVE was better last season when the DL focused on gap control and run fits, and it’s why they were no factors on Sunday. The Cardinals OL was at the second level almost immediately in many situations.
And yet another weakness is both of their guards blocking straight up on the two defensive tackles and opening it up right up the middle or setting the QB up with the same lane 3 seconds into a drop back.

That or double down on Parsons on the outside...

Overshown would have carried more punch outside, if he were still available.

We drafted Mazi to fix inside runs and it seems to be better...... Only problem is outside runs and it won't be fixed unless our LB's somehow turned into some aggressive speed demons overnight.
not necessarily, our DL plays gap sound , then there wont be big gaps on the outside to run to , the problem is DL is bent upon getting to the QB , without recognising these Offensive gameplan is to run at DEs , the position the DEs vacated is not filled fast enough , and once runner gets ahead of the bend he has a long run.

Our LBs dont have the speed to fill those gaps and even if overshown was available he will not be able to do that consistently. DEs cant pass rush every play and that too when we are playing behind , ( the opposing offense has no need to pass that much , if they are ahead )

I’d like to see Thomas get more of a chance to play that hybrid LB spot. He has the size and speed for it.

Well, the charts showed it was outside runs that hurt the Cowboys early on, and IIRC mostly on the weak side.
Parsons is a good run defender as a linebacker, but I feel when he's on the edge, he's like Robert Quinn, gunning for the QB first.
The strong side with Lawrence did a better job at runs to his side I believe.

LVE isn't a gamebreaker. He is what he is. Solid, replaceable, with weaknesses that pop up here and there but they haven't come close to even finding talent better than him. They drafted Clark, who had the same spinal fusion surgery LVE had. He's no longer a sideline to sideline LB. I guess he's well respected by teammates and Quinn and wears the green mic. I doubt it has to do with any draft position/status as they've let him hit FA twice.

LVE and Kearse had bad games in week 3. Time will tell if both can bounce back to solid or if this is a bigger hole.

They have had so much success getting upfield and getting to the qb or rb they didn’t change what they were doing. I think cards saw it in film and waited for them to come up and ram between them right out the back door. If we do this we need our Safety or LB to fill the gap. But that leaves 1 on 1. If qb gets it off then it’s a big play. How many times did we see them throw to a wide open receiver. Was Blands first game on the outside. I think our D-Line needs to hold assignments.

Couple that with our pass RUSHERS going wide up the field

He’s only played like 40 snaps.

One solo tackle.

Eventhough, the issues in the run game stem from the RDE position you can't have a good run stopping Defense with a soft MLB. Think of all the great defenses of the past and find a MLB sorry as LVE, you won't. The DTs n DLaw are doing a good job, but Micah has to step up in the run game. The SSs were garbage vs the Cards too.

Bottom line: If Clark doesn't take a leap the LBs are going to be a liability.

I agree with you, wish we would of gotten roquan smith last year in a trade.

We drafted Mazi to fix the run defense.

He runs a 4.9 on a good day.
He’s looking like a mistake with every game we play. Looks like we may be in the market for another DT before long.
