How Scott Linehan has created one of the NFL’s most lethal offenses in Dallas

I wish that Garrett would have half the balls in trying to win games like Jimmy. Garrett is too conservative and would happily settle for a field goal rather than go for it on 4th down. Not Jimmy. He was win at all cost. No matter what.

I wish Garrett would carry that same approach with this team. We would have probably whooped Green Bay in the playoffs.
To his credit JG does have a pretty superior win to loss record when it comes to tossing the red challenge flag ,,,but I know what you're kicking on,it seemed for like three years straight field goals were the end result on offense:banghead:

There weren't even six what if's.
I may not be smart... but I can count to three.

There were more what ifs than 3 that I counted.

1. What if Landry doesn't draft Irvin?
2. What if Cowboys do not draft Troy (you state that this was a long shot or no brainer pick)?
3. What if Jimmy drafts Mandarich instead of Troy? This is a real reach because Jimmy never drafts OL in first round, prefers offensive skill players or pass rushers - his history is there for everyone to see.
4. What if Jimmy drafts Agnew?
5. What if Jimmy drafts Francis?
6. What if Jimmy does not draft Emmitt if he does draft a pass rusher like he planned? Who knows if Jimmy does not trade up to get Emmitt anyway or what if Emmitt falls to Cowboys next pick?

What ifs are pointless in my opinion, no problem solved with this exercise and the what if possibilities are endless. You analyze what actually happened not what might have happened.

And afterwards they did not get better, they were maybe a tick better but the difference between 11-5 and 9-7 is a thin line. So jimmy did not leave the dolphins in a better position when he left but also did not leave them worse off.

True not any better and not any worse.

Scott Linehan has always described his offensive philosophy with the word “attack”. It goes back to his introductory press conference for the Rams when he credited his Idaho coach, Dennis Erickson, with the influence of “attacking” opponents. The Cowboys have certainly been an offense that has plenty of firepower and they most definitely attack opposing defenses.

With a punishing running attack, the Cowboys can control the clock and break the will of a defense. One area where the Cowboys could improve from last season is their passing offense, where they ranked 23rd in yards per game.

Linehan, NOT Garrett. For those that understand how things work.

It's what happens when you're good enough to play solid pass defense against regular QBs, but not good enough to do the same against elite ones. You end up relying on your own elite offense to get it done, and that can get you burnt. One pick on a screen pass or one overturned call or weird penalty and it can all end suddenly.

Jimmy had the resources to add and retain personnel, so he did, and removed all doubt.

Jimmy understood balance. And he knew how to control a team and the culture where there was enough fear. Not a country club day spa.

Sorry man, all coaches and teams face the same challenges, yet the Champions like Pats, Seahawks, Broncs, Ravens, Steelers, Gints even 9ers under Harbaugh always find a way to overcome.

Coaching matters most in the playoffs. And that's what separates Garrett from the coaches above, even when/if Garrett has the better talent.

And guys like Dez and Dak are already bragging about winning when they havent accomplished anything.

Miami was getting just as far under Shula the 2 season prior to him leaving Miami was in the playoffs so Jimmy did not take a poor team and made them better he took an avg team and they stayed avg. As for Marino? Jimmy was HC and GM so don't give me that Bull ****. I love it you will go after Garrett and make excuses for Jimmy? LOL

What excuses? Jimmy won 3 SB's. To compare Garrett to Jimmy just shows how completely homer lost you are.

It's semantics so it's not even worth arguing over. Particularly with a long-time poster like yourself... but there were 3 what ifs as I intended it (I think the phrase what if was actually written 4 times).

1. What if Landry doesn't draft Irvin.
2. What if Dallas had the second overall pick. I didn't say what if they took mandarich... I said they would have if they picked second because Troy would have been in Green Bay.
3. What if one of the trades would have been accepted (Francis or Agnew). I did put what if for both of those for a total of 4, but both couldn't have happened and had either occurred, Emmitt never would have been a Cowboy. It was one single thing that could have happened in the first round of the 1990 draft.

To be honest though, it doesn't matter how many what ifs I wrote... this is just bickering (and I'm guilty of it). You're right in that my post was a little long and that what didn't happen or what could have happened doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things... so peace.

Getten back to Linehan...he is not the next GREAT OC...he has talent all across the baord...he makes his fair share of BONEHEADED PLAY CALLS every game along with JG and Rod. Problem is, most of the time those plays cost Dallas the game = JGs way too early TO before the end of the GB game and of course Rod playing that rediculous PREVENT D allowing Rogers to just pick his poision = the coaches need to do a MUCH better job

I saw recently where he bragged that we were going to win the NFC East. Is that report false?

Dak and Dez bragging about winning? Since when? As for not having accomplishing anything thats pretty farfetch from the truth don't you think? Heck, playing in the NFL is an accomplishment in and of itself.

Thanks, idk? This is news to me,,,and with a quick break down of reading between the lines of this ' news' it's telling me #4 is primed for more than a little PAYBACK concerning those two losses N.Y. handed him last year,,,hey Roy,where can I find/ read this ' low brow' tweet from Dez I've only caught mention of?

Well, the non-holding call (which was very obvious) didn't help either.

It sure didn't.

I'm not sure, but it looked to me like the Falcons went to the league about the Packers' linemen holding and forced them to play a different game. Atlanta's defenders were all over Rodgers the following week, and Green Bay's line looked like a different bunch of guys.
