How to clean up the penalties?

Unless a HC comes in and is given the same control as Johnson and Parcells, the lack of discipline will continue. Penalties have been a problem since well before MM.

When players can go over the HCs head, straight to the owner/gm, no one will fix the penalty problem. When the owner/gm lands his helicopter on the field during practice, and sells tours of the facility while team activities are going on, there's a lackadaisical attitude that takes over the team.

Why are people shocked that Guyton is raw?

The guy was a known developmental prospect. He has some elite level traits, but he was always going to take time before he could reach his potential at the NFL level.

We can thank our genius GM once again for his roster construction and putting the kid and the team in a horrid position this season.

For fans to turn around and blast Guyton for simply being who he is as a player is short sighted. At least place the lion’s share of the blame on the man that deserves to wear it: Jerry Jones
Excuses....not good. Its one thing to learn the intricasies of nfl offensive line. Its another to be so undisciplined you stack the most penalites in the nfl.

I blame ferry for a lot of things....but these men, have been doing it all their lives. You saying guyton bever learned a snap count, should develop it in the nfl, and its jerrys fault?

Hmmm...i dunno.

I think its a few components. As a coach you want to create a culture of execution; teaching, giving he standard and team accountability. From the player standpoint its skill, worth ethic, standard and individual accountability. I think we are just struggling at both. This has been an issue before Guyton. Guyton just needs time to develop and he needed the right culture, when he got drafted it appeared his ethic wasnt the issue. but now its his execution. They drafted him high for due to potential so its going to be a process. But if culture doesnt change execution wont either, which has been a struggle for this team for a while.

Problem: Your first pick should never been in an extended Project Development Plan......we have two......Guyton and Mazi, back-to-back.

Being a physically raw prospect has no correlation to committing pre-snap penalties. Along with some of the other rumblings that have gotten out, his problems are 'above the shoulders".

Yep. The GM who makes the picks and signs the checks should be blamed

Besides a coaching change

How do you stop the stupid penalties, especially the pre snap?

How can a player not know the snap count in the final game of the year? Dont they practice this?
There is no such thing as "besides croaching". When it comes to penalty control, that is the head coach period.

Blame the GM for drafting him. He needs time. Piling on him at this point doesn’t solve the problem either.

Bottom line is that he never should have been counted on to start at this stage in his career. But the GM who crafted the roster set the stage for that to happen

Not sure if it's NFLPA allowed....but hit a player in the pocket for continued penalties.

The easiest way to clean up penalties is to get better players in here. There could be a cultural issue as well, but generally guys are committing most of the penalties because they are getting beat, and not as much because they are dumb or undisciplined. Guys dont hold when they are dominating the man in front of them. Guys jumping offsides is typically because they are overly eager to get that half step advantage, or are simply getting beat so bad that they are more focused on how the heck they are going to execute their assignment than the snap. Outside of an occasional bad call you dont see Pass interference from perfect coverage. High penalty players are typically (always the exception) players that are not very good on the field and need to push the rules to the limits.

Chuck, the problem with NOT mentioning or changing the coach, is that he's the one that will enforce every good suggestion you get here.

It's like expecting a child to change his behavior without the parent making those changes.....Jerry can get stupid players but it's the coach who either fixes stupid or keeps them off the field as much as possible

You know, you can say something simple, like anybody who has a pre-snap penalty will sit out the next series

They knew this when they drafted him. Did they think they could teach the penalties out of him. He’s just not talented enough.

I will say this, Tyler Smith was a penalty waiting to happen but he cleaned that up this year so yes there is hope for Guyton.
