How to move forward at qb?

I 1000% believe that NOW is the time to trade Dak if he is tradable, because I believe we could get a ton for him to help rebuild the defense. I also would love to see Milton win the job and play this year out even though this won't happen, but I believe by him playing 4 or 5 games would let us know if he could be the future. I'm have feeling that he could be a rising star, but thats just me... This is what I would do if I was in charge. I'm not saying Dak is tradable, but as a long time suffering cowboy fan, I'm already ready for a losing season.
I think milton is a better qb than he seems. We have not had a running qb since......

Too soon to think about replacing Prescott.

My observation….he could use one less top notch WR but needs a stud TE to count on. Linus blanket.

I really think would better serve him. But….none of it matters if no one can play defense. It’s cool that they took the preseason off so no one gets hurt. Went well.

Either way, this is five games of this, and it’s next to not believable until you realize that it’s a Jerry controlled situation and that’ll never work….but he “bought himself” the right to be able to do this year after year and fail. I have NO idea how people haven’t turned on him severely.
This…..Dak has either led the league in TD, or been close to the top more than once….in 2023 he did it with Cooks and Gallup as his #2, and he made CD a 1st team all pro, and had an average run game and Ferg as TE. He has proven multiple years he can be near the top in performance, got us to 12-5 3x with McCarthy. He’s mot the real problem now. But the question is, who do we go after if we let him go? Mahomes, Allen, Burrow types are RARE, the chances are we would get a below average qb and be in the Quincy Carter years again…..man, that would SUCK.

These threads always come up when he has an off game. Two INTs off the hands of the receivers. Same old people start these threads on the board.

You didn't say this about the 19-12 loss?

Oh yeah, in that 49ers playoff game you mentioned, we as a team committed a league record 14 penalties in that game. No quarterback in history has ever led a team to a post season victory after their team committed 14 penalties.

Embarrassing.

Apparently I mistakenly mix the heavy penalty game up and yes I stand by that first penalty game, because people like you would come along and say dumb things like "2-5!, 2-5!"...... not smart enough to realize that 2-5 is a team record, not a single player record.

To make it clear, no quarterback has ever been able to help lead a team to a playoff victory vs a number one defense after his own team committed a league record 14 penalties.

Thats not defending, thats facts. Dak got plenty we can blame him for but it makes you angry that you can't use that first 49ers to blame him for. That's not a false narrative either, we have plenty of threads to back up those facts.

You're absolutely right, that's truly embarrassing... so do better young gun.

Dak is 0-3 in divisional playoffs…

dak is 2-5 with 2 wild card wins in 11 years.

HOF . Top 3 all time QB .

I know it upsets you to read this and im not sure if anyone ever filled you in but.... those records you posted are the Dallas Cowboys records, not a single person's record. This isn't boxing or golf....

But if you really want to put records on one player, watch this.....

Dak's 2-5 in 11 seasons.... yeah that's not good. Definitely nothing to write home about. Dak has never been considered an elite quarterback, but thats still not good.

Matthew Stafford didn't win a playoff game until his 12th season in the NFL. That is crazy right?? Now according to me, thats a team record, but according to you... Stafford didn't have any playoff wins until his 12th season in the National Football League.

Thats insane, especially for a quarterback who's considered elite. Mind boggling huh....

This isn’t an anti Dak post. I think every qb has games like last night. The difference is their defense and coaching isn’t atrocious and maybe it can help them still win.

I think Dak is a top 10 qb but like any other guy outside the top 5….one who needs help around him to win.

Reality is though. He’ll be 34 next year. With one year remaining on his deal. The window to win with him is closing… and closing fast.

In a deep qb draft….Shouldn’t we start to prepare for life after Dak? Consider drafting a guy and letting him sit for a year?
NO, THE GOAL is to never ever seek a QB that could possibly push Dak out, Jerry doesn't want a QB controversy ever!!

I believe money can be saved cutting him this year. Regardless it’s time for competition. He’s had 11 years of people telling him he’s the greatest while he overall has played like top 15. Make the guy compete or release him
Cutting Dak this year would result in a $131m dead cap hit.

Right. This is irrational. So if Schottenheimer calls vertical routes all night, refuses to run the ball and doesn't give his quarterback an out underneath he's supposed to just throw it up and hope for the best? Schottenheimer made his own offense "feast or famine" Thursday night and you should be worried more about that crap happening again going forward...not to mention a tight end who should be benched immediately.

So if the defense continues to be butt-horrible Prescott is then supposed to be the #1 QBR quarterback every Sunday...in spite of his HC's lame-brained play-calling and game-planning? Irrational...and unrealistic.
It isn't about expecting a quarterback to be a miracle worker every Sunday. It’s about how they handle adversity when the game plan breaks down.
When an offensive coordinator calls a bad play or vertical routes aren't open, top-tier quarterbacks don't just 'throw it up and hope for the best.' They use their pre-snap authority to audible into a better play, check the ball down, throw it out of bounds to avoid a turnover, or scramble to keep the chains moving. That is exactly what Joe Burrow did when his offensive line was collapsing, and it's what Patrick Mahomes does when his receivers drop passes.
No one is saying Brian Schottenheimer or the defense are blameless. The point is that when a franchise quarterback takes up a massive portion of the salary cap, they are being paid to mitigate those coaching and defensive mistakes, not compound them by turning the ball over. If a quarterback needs perfect play-calling, a dominant run game, and a top-tier defense just to execute, then the team is paying elite money for a system player.

You are not thinking clearly sir. He started slow in that game...just like a rookie would. Romo had the same problem against the Giants. He wasn't ready for championships and neither was Prescott in 2016. Elliott carried him heavily that year with over 2,000 all purpose yards. When the o-line regressed he had to learn how to be a better pocket passer. He was nowhere until the arrival of Amari Cooper. He was NEVER going to win a superbowl in 2016. No rookie has ever done it.
That's not what I was saying, that he was ready. But you would get no dear-caught-in-headlights moment from him then. When the leader of your team panicks at the beginning of a big game, it is already all lost.

Unfortunately, our idiot front office keeps giving up draft picks for underperforming vets. We’re in real danger of bottoming out without having the ammo to get this hypothetical QB.

How to move forward: Tear the team down and draft a QB high in the draft.

Yes, there's a few to be found in later rounds, but the reality is that most top 10 QBs in the NFL come from round 1. Anything after round 1 is a pure drunk dart throw in the dark. QBs like Brady and Purdy and Dak are accidents, not to be counted on finding.

Sidenote: according to a nugget I read a couple of months ago, in 2027, multiple high-level QBs could change teams.
* Burrow
* Lamar Jackson
* CJ Stroud
* Baker Mayfield
* Jalen Hurts
* Deshaun Watson
OK, this is just funny!!!! You do realize you just called Stroud and Watson high level QBs, right? Hurts sure isn't looking like one either!!!

Eeek. This again. Carry on.

You all are ridiculous,

Prescott is still playing at a high level and is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

He’s in great shape, and quarterbacks can easily play past 35 at a high level; we’ve all seen it. He’s not going anywhere for the next two or three seasons and will probably stay, but as a fan of his, and yes, I was also a Romo fan,

I’m a Cowboys fan who’s allowed to like them both equally. I hope he goes and gets a ring somewhere else, like Stafford, Manning, and some of the other guys. Even Sam Darnold took the long way out, and Prescott can do the same. He shouldn’t sign a new deal or extension and should ask for a trade. He needs to be reasonable wherever he goes because of his big contract. Go ring chasing now while you still can, get out of Dallas because the fans don’t appreciate you. It’s not about Jerry or losing; it’s about this ridiculous fan base that either hated Romo or hated Prescott and didn’t realize how good these two really were. They’re homegrown Dallas Cowboys, and somehow, they get disrespected here, and I’m absolutely sick of it. I hope he leaves for his sake.

Even if he goes to a contender or a rival of ours, I’ll pull for him. I usually don’t do that, once our guys leave, they’re the enemy, but you know what? I hope he goes and gets a ring and shoves it in everyone’s faces because he’s good enough to win one, though not by himself. He’s not Superman.
